Mr. Stratus Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Do you believe things such as Kesha's support from Gaga as well as her rebrand in 2017, and Taylor dropping 1989 on Spotify impacted the fact Katy Perry is no longer any kind of name in pop? Or, was it all just witness?
differentkindahigh Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Don't doubt it, considering Gaga also had a direct contribution of what they did to Christina during Bionic 2 1
Popular Post cat1867 Posted October 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 24, 2023 (edited) Taylor dropping 1989 didn't hurt Katy in anyway. Witness still got its #1. It just gave Katy some free publicity that she failed to utilize since swish swish was an horrendous song. Barely anyone know about Katy Perry's involvement with Kesha. Katy never established a fanbase and so was dependent on hits for her career. 2017 was a down year for pop music in general but Witness's lackluster songs and horrendous promo doomed it. If she had just flopped quietly and respectfully, she might have had a chance with her next album. But with Katy live streaming her therapy sessions, she doomed herself. But Katy has a great back catalogue, a hot husband & cute baby , and making tons of money on American Idol. Many pop girls wish they had such a perfect post flop life. Punky Rooster Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Gaga no as she was over as a pop star well before Katy declined, but Taylor’s fans and their hate campaign definitely had a part in it. 7 1 12
WitnessOblivia Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 I don't think Gaga contributed to Katy's downfall at all. Taylor? I'm also leaning towards no. Katy did everything in her power to end herself and she succeeded. 6
Smarticle Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Using that logic, Taylor did YNTCD with Katy so she should have repeaked 2 3
Popular Post Klein Posted October 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 24, 2023 Taylor and Gaga are not responsible for Katy's inability to release good music post-2013. 16 2 1 3
Timeless Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 (edited) No, Katy did it to herself by turning into an Ellen Degeneres lookalike and making a horrible mv for Swish Swish Edited October 24, 2023 by Timeless 5 1
Santhosh Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Lol no It's katys fault for taking long break between prism and witness 1
chosensparkles Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 No, Katy just never had a real fanbase. She always relied on her looks and the hits Max and Dr Luke were crafting with her. When all that disappeared, the rest followed 3 1
Solaria Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Taylor and Gaga are more talented than Katherina Perreira so they were bound to last longer 3 2
adylovestaylorandjb Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Songs weren't good enough. It is always the rivals, promo etc. Never the fault of bad music for flopping. Also her appearance always played a big role. The blonde haircut was disaster as well
Peak Now Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 A lot of y'all seem to have forgotten that the general public were largely on Katy's side throughout their feud, especially after Snakegate. And Bon Appetit came out when Taylor was MIA on social media. I don't know why you're dragging Gaga into this either. 3
ScorpiosGroove Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 some of you on here are either eternally stuck in 2013 or 2003 2 2
XxxKatyCatxxX Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 The only reason is called Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson. 2
Heartbreak Prince Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Katy had always relied on the public more than a fanbase to keep her afloat, and a big part of having the GP on her side was her pin up doll looks. Once she lost that after the haircut, it was over. She’s saw some forms of a comeback with Never Really Over which still managed quite a good streaming number, but now that she’s post-flop, she’s got a hot husband, a child, a healthy paycheck from American Idol and will always have some of the biggest pop hits radio has ever seen. She still kinda won in the end.
PopKills Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 According to Perez Hilton Gaga stopped a KatyXRedOne collab from happening but that source is not rlly reliable obviously. No one „ended“ Katy but herself tbh and I say that as a fan. 3
AxelFox Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Not at all. Contrarily to what this forum believes, there is room for everyone to be celebrated. Katy's demise was her own doing. 1
Kodak Energy Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 No, Katy’s long break and weak music post break killed her career. A long break when you have a large music catalog like Rihanna or Beyonce is different to having 3 albums. It’d be like dua disappearing without a single on the radio for 2 years now. After her comeback she had some interest but she dropped weak music and never spammed hard enough on radio afterward to recapture the GP’s attention, the way Bieber did after changes.
KMO Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 I’m hoping Witness is used as a case study for other labels and artists in how not to market and roll out an album. It was all Katy and Capitol’s doing, I’m afraid.
Life Savers Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Katy ended Katy. As others have said she’s getting a check and good loving from Orlando Bloom so she still won at the end of the day. 1
R.E.M. Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 55 minutes ago, Klein said: Taylor and Gaga are not responsible for Katy's inability to release good music post-2013. This. If she hadn't destroyed her brand with a pixie cut & the music had been, at the very least, on par with TD/PRISM in terms of quality she would've had a moderately successful era. If anything, Katy would have been benefited from going against Taylor in 2017 since the hate train was in full force in the lead-up to Reputation that same year. I don't think Gaga had any impact in it either since people who typically consume her music hate Katy/Katycats regardless 3
MonsterTown Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 no. it was ageism, and no evolution as an artist....the generarion that did stan her, left her already they grew, her music for them was not relatable at all....now gen z thinks katy is cringe, since the migos performance, her latests songs, swish swish music video etc...gen z now care for Billie, Olivia, Doja, Megan , Taylor...
