I'll frequently spend 80% of my time just writing the first verse and chorus

Originally, I felt a bit...disappointed? with the challenge...not because it's bad but because I felt like I beat the concept of seasonal songs to death. I have multiple songs for every season, and some songs incorporate every season, and that's not including other songs where I just used seasonal terms in various one-off similies and metaphors. On top of that, my work schedule is odd this week where I didn't have as much time to conceptualize and write as I'd have liked. This, combined with me generally having a bit of a depressive mood made me feel really bad about things in general. What I did was just start writing something with the intention of it being bad, just so I could have something. The product of that was actually the first and final quatrains of my song (you'd be able to tell from them having the same format, as well as the sense of frustration coming from them) That, however, resulted in the entry I think I'm most proud of so far this season. I particularly enjoy the chorus as I feel it's one of the best ones I've wrote on a technical level, as well as an emotional one. Oh and as far as that depressive mood I talked about, I realized it was very similar to the one I had like...a bit over a year ago where I realized I wanted to make changes in my life and when that clicked I ended up having a very productive day 😅 Love this. I usually like to get a framework/first draft I am happy with, which rarely happens in less than two writing sessions for me. I'm definitely not a, "Oh I wrote this masterpiece in 10 minutes 🤪," kind of writer as I always obsess about even the tiniest of little details and worry about placing internal rhymes and alliterations in places or ways most people might not even realise they exist. Even on the rare occasion when I do get the majority of a song out in a single session, I typically always come back to it and end up not liking certain lyrics or improving things. I try as much as possible to use text-to-speech so I can hear how everything sounds together which helps maybe pick up on some things I wouldn't if I were just using my mental voice. Random fun tip for anyone reading: If you're struggling to write a second verse, make the first verse you already have the second verse and try to write a new first verse! Making a good follow-up to a strong verse is sometimes overwhelming, so this can relieve some of that pressure. Rather than "living up to" the first verse, you're "setting up for" the amazing verse you've already written! I can't tell you how many times this trick has got me out of a state of writer's block. 1
poki Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I think I write better while walking around my town. Long quiet walks always clear my mind. I don't think about anything, literally just focus on what I see around, just breathing and walking. I did it for round 3 of this season, and for what I have so far for round 4. 1
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted November 15, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted November 15, 2023 I submitted and I am happy with what I sent, but I feel this is always a sign that the song might not be liked. Let's see.

Galah Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 The leaves are falling, but so is the sand in this challenge's hourglass! Less than 24 hours to submit for Round 4's 'tis the damn season challenge. Remember, if you've only just discovered Golden Hit or simply didn't wish to participate in other rounds, fear not: sign-ups are still open—just submit! With that, it's time to present the top three of last round's Judge's Choice challenge with their bonus prizes: the Hit Tokens! I've reviewed the requests from our trio of top writers for the week, and done my best to grant them for embossment. Celebrating a second place success with “Off-Brand” and its genuine 8.42 score: @punisher Here is your Silver Hit Token embossed with your requested text and a fake-looking Gucci logo. Congratulations! This is your first Hit Token of S5, and first Hit Token of Golden Hit overall! Also celebrating a second place success with “Villa With a Swimming Pool / The History of Masculinity” and its strong 8.42 score: @stupidjock Here is your Silver Hit Token embossed with your ATRL username and Half-Figure by Edouard Nodin. Congratulations! This is your first Hit Token of S5, and first Hit Token of Golden Hit overall! Celebrating a first place finish with “Childhood Dreams” and its dreamlike 8.46 score: @Legend E Here is your Golden Hit Token embossed with your ATRL username and Kylie Minogue (Disco era). Congratulations! This is your first Hit Token of S5, and fourth Hit Token of Golden Hit overall (excluding your judge's tokens)! I hope you all enjoy your Hit Tokens as much as I did making them! Feel free to use them as a forum avatar if you wish, or just let them be a reminder of your time in Golden Hit—ultimately the choice is yours, and if for whatever reason you are dissatisfied with your token or simply wish to change the embossed graphic/text please contact me and I can arrange a remake. Remember, the top three writers of each round will earn their own Hit Token just like the three above, so make sure to submit each week for the best chance to claim one of these bonus prizes. 2 2

It saves automatically so you never have to worry about something like this happening again.

Yes, the rankings will still be revealed each week as usual! The scores are only hidden as we don't want anyone heading into the final round feeling like it's "impossible" for them to place well overall. As we've seen with the last round, the difference between first place and last can be a single point, so there'll be truly no way to tell where you'll finish up at the end of the season! Scores for Rounds 4 through 6 will still be revealed, but not until the finale results show. 2 minutes ago, stupidjock said: Thank you!! Congrats on the well-deserved win. I'm also very glad we had a tie for second as the Silver Hit Token is actually the rarest of the three! We've had more ties for 1st place and 3rd place than 2nd, disproportionately reducing the number of Silver Hit Tokens in circulation. So consider yourself lucky! 🪙 1

I would like to announce that I didn't send anything last round because I was one of those people that used ChatGPT during the first rounds. Due to time constraints I made that stupid decision and I realize it may have disrupted the flow of the game. Sorry for wasting the time of the judges. I genuinely regret it and I felt bad so I thought announcing this myself right now would've been better than people rumoring who used it . My real songwriting is actually good too though, and that's why I joined the game but after not having enough time to submit on first round (cuz of life and uni etc) I used ChatGPT. Hopefully in future I can enter the competition with my own writing. Ghoul's Ballad was a mega bop though and if it wasn't written by GPT i'm sure y'all would've given it a 10/10 . Good luck to other ones!! I gave Ghouls Ballad a 9 I think. It was really cute. You were actually one of the song writers I was quite excited about because I thought your style was similar to mine... well, the style of the AI was similar to mine Feel free to submit something the other rounds. 1
