I mean why not give it a little push? It was probably going #1 anyway without the push. 

 

It's still #2 on overall radio, just spent its 10th week at #1 on pop radio, was going to be #1 in sales (now it really is), and will be back in the streaming songs top 10 now that the album bomb has dwindled. 

 

It's not like the song fizzled out completely and they're randomly making a push. Plus it's a bonafide, well-balanced hit. The movie helped sustain it's life, as well. 

 

It's really not a big deal and I think people are just seething cuz they didn't want to see Lover get a #1 single.

If that was the case you wouldn’t have just gotten 4 last minute versions at the end of the tracking week. That’s not going #1 off of existing. That’s securing a #1 with cheap last minute sales. I don’t get why she still cares at her level

I don`t get why stan culture think its a contest to see who doesn`t care about their own career more, like people attract to that?

Cruel Summer is having its revenge on ME! Let it have its moment

It would have been so much more fun for the song’s legacy if it peaked at #2. First, for getting blocked like the other Loser singles. Second, it would be a quirky chart stat for something to smash so hard on radio (10 weeks at #1!) but fail to top the Hot 100. Oh well.

I actually am surprised considering it has been smashing all summer and had multiple chances at #1, but she didn't lift a finger.  I'm glad she is giving it the little kick it needs
