discussion if Midnights becomes Taylors 4th AOTY Win, will the Grammys Lose or Gain credibility?

Why are people writing brain gymnastics saying that Midnights doesn’t deserve it because is not her best album.  If it wins it’s because the panel voted for the best album of 2023 period. With folkmore being her peak, you can’t expect it just to top it every other year, that’s not how it works. 
 

And some trying to say that she has to reinvent herself again  let me remain you the genres of her AOTYs:

- Country

- Synth-pop

- Folk

It'd gain in the eyes of her massive fanbase which in return will translate to (fake) increased cred from the industry in fear of getting bullied by them

I do think it'll be mocked for it considering they haven't given Beyoncé a single one even though she released Lemonade and Midnights isn't even that great to begin with in terms of overall reviews and ratings. It looks like a decent album but AOTY should be a GREAT record.

The Fame and Lady Gaga dominated from 2009-11 and yet she didn't win. I'm sure Michael Jackson's Bad dominated the industry in ways unseen since Thriller (and since Adele's 25) but yet he didn't win.

Taylor should only win for Fearless, 1989, Folklore. RED was okay but I can see why it lost. For Fearless, it truly was the WWAFAWDWG of the 2000s, people tend to forget she was an 18 year old taking the world by yeehaw storm. 1989 was a pop album whose celebrity was inescapable and is the sole catalyst for the poptimism movement that benefited women like Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, and many more by the late 2010s. I think it made its mark and flowers, even above TPAB. Folklore easily her most deserved win.

 

For Midnights, its in the title, MIDnights. SOS is such a good album and narratively truly deserves the AOTY win more than Midnights, honestly it just feels like Taylor going back to dip her toes into pop and not getting into full pop gear yet.

 

Her winning 2020 album then again for 2022 just feels idk too unrealistic. Plus its not that great of an album compared to the titans Reputation and 1989.

the grammy's credibility would probably stay at the same level. people always complain about who wins awards every year, and say that the grammys are irrelevant, but yet they still tune in every year and celebrate when their fav wins a grammy. midnights doesn't deserve to win AOTY, it's not the best album of the year, it was just the biggest. but i wouldn't be upset if it did win.

Which album deserved it more than Fearless? When I was an OTH I used to say that Kendrick deserved it over 1989, but I could never come up with a replacement for Fearless. The nominations were incredibly weak that year. Fearless was genuinely by far the best record

Midnights is a great great album but for Taylor its not a big change in direction to warrant another win. Like Adele win again for 25. 

 

It will be well deserved in my opinion but im well aware winning a 4th time this soon will send her into legacy act and she doesnt get more motivate for future projects/sound. 

 

She can get her 4th one with a different sound album in her 40s and that will certify her as the most legendary artist of all time.

The Grammys have well since moved past the majority of nominations awarding the most deserving in favor of the most popular. Sometimes the most deserving is the most popular. Midnights is not the case. 
 

The majority of people will not know or care outside of people who actually engage in music beyond listening to the radio and following a few bands.

I like midnights, but she can do much better. Awarding it AOTY wouldn't push her to try different and better things. I hope SZA gets it. Folklore and Fearless definitely deserved their wins. 1989 is more debatable since it was up against TPAB

A black woman hasn't won since Lauryn Hill in 1999, making 24 years so far.

I find it difficult to see how we don't reach 25 years with no black female winner in February 2024, a new milestone.

 

I'd say they might lose a bit of credibility with Midnights, but since Harry's House was AOTY last year, I'm not sure how much further they can fall.
