SmittenCake
Last year and the year before it was looking good for female rap but 2023 says otherwise: Iggy Azalea - career over after defending Torey Lanez/new music bombed and kinda sucks (visuals are ok) Doja Cat - lover of alt.right culture and incels (album apparently flopped +critically panned and people are canceling her for good) Saweetie - will never take off Glorilla - isn't checked on anymore Latto - Latto's last dr.luke produced songs flopped. She's not checked up on and was listening to the Beyonce and Nicki Minaj remix of Flawless yesterday (in hopes of getting attention?) CardiB - gloated about living in the top 10 for years just to barely make it in the top 10 anymore. Bongo's wasn't the hit it was hyped up to be. what is happening to female rap? satellites.™
Cardi needs to drop the sex music and drop some MELODIC radio friendly songs, where she RAPS. Glorilla just dropped some new FIRE! Listen to "Overstood" 2

dumbsparce
The lyrical content is lacking. They all rap about money, ass, boobs, *****, dicks and dragging hoes on top of a heavily pop-leaning production. It has gotten stale and boring and most of the girls are interchangeable. Someone new needs to come through and revive the 90s/early 00s sound. Edited October 10, 2023 by dumbsparce 5

I agree with this, and I'll add that ALL these girls are being marketed in the exact same way - the GP won't buy the same product 100 times over and over.

Popboi.
Doja is literally #1 right now with a single and Ice Spice has been on 4 top 10 hits. Nicki might debut with similar or a bit lower numbers than she did with Queen unless something goes terribly wrong. It's not all bad. 6
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted October 11, 2023 ATRL Moderator Share Posted October 11, 2023 Doja, Nicki, Ice Spice, Coi Leray, Latto have all had hits this year at different levels. I think the music just hasn't been that good from female rappers in general

Sheep
The biggest song in the world is female rap. There are always girlies killing it and girlies making ART. Other than Nicki's peak those 2 things don't always coincide and that's okay. Female rap stays winning regardless.

Happylittlepunk
We need a new missy elliot and Eve imo someone who brings something new to the table that isn’t just another nicki 2.0 or sex hyped rap girl. where are the rap girls that can bring a cool factor without all the sex image? where is the rap girl that raps about female struggle in the black community? where the rap girl that brings social awareness and positive change for the black culture.
Gorjesspazze9
Rap in general is declining commercially. Not even the tiktokers can keep songs relevant long enough.
