Spoiler

@EriKills with Trouble

"We have a doppleganger rebel in our midst! I think this is successful in laying out the concept of the album. I’m curious to see her multiple interpretations of what “trouble” is. It seems like a good intro and I look forward to seeing more detailed examples of this theme. I would have enjoyed seeing a line about the sonic aspects of the album as well."

@stupidjock with Chaeri

"The production quality on Chaeri is really really cool. It’s a pretty good choice for this round, because the overall atmosphere is so haunting yet catchy, that you’d want to check out more of the album. I also didn’t realize how much of a contrast it was from their previous work! One critique is the choice of describing the album as full of “interesting concepts” - I know it’s just an introduction, but I think this could have been expanded or highlighted a bit more to hook me in. What kind of interesting concepts??"

@Hey Dude with 2005

"This was one of the most unique explanations of the round. You have a perspective and voice that stands out! I loved that you used specific lyrics and history from the band to sell your POV. I am definitely intrigued that this album is by an artist I’ve never heard of… so it’s like whoa what other songs will they have in store that embody this reflective vibe? Some comments on the production/sonic approach would have also resonated as an expansion of your essay."

@PoisonedIvy with The Floyd Song (Sunrise)

"I definitely remember NOT connecting with this album back in 2015, so I’m really curious to try it again here. I think that I have a greater appreciation for the production while listening to this song today. Your explanation for this round is good, introducing both the album’s core concepts both lyrically and sonically."

@Not Like The Movies with 20 Something

"This explanation was really on point — you made the most of the word count/restriction with incredible details. Various themes of the album were discussed while directly tying it back to the song. Def one of the best written explanations of my group. The song selection makes a lot of sense to encapsulate the themes of the album. I have mentioned in other reviews that I’d love to have also heard about the sonic components of the album, so I will highlight that here too."

Spoiler

@khalyan with What's Your Pleasure?

"Your explanation meets the theme, but in a fairly baseline way that leaves me wanting more information. You’ve essentially just told me that the album is a fresh-sounding disco album with strong vocal production, which isn’t much to go off of in order to decide whether this particular song is a better representation of the album than the rest of the album’s tracks. The personal connection tie-in was a bit of a risk in a more objective round, but I think you mostly managed to bring it back to the theme by talking about how it acts as a reference point of sorts for the rest of the album."

6.5/10

Spoiler

@nostalgic with G*psy Woman

"It’s a shame you went over the word limit by a pretty sizeable amount because otherwise this would have been a nearly flawless entry. Not only does this tell me exactly what the album is going to be like from both a lyrical and musical standpoint, but you’ve done a great job selling this song as being uniquely representative of all those elements. Your discussion of how both this song and the album as a whole mark a shift in Hilary’s musical career was another great way to tie the song and album together. If you had only exceeded the word count by a few words, I would have let it slide, but it wouldn’t be fair to everyone else for me not to penalize you. Your explanation exceeded the word limit by about a third, so I’ll apply that same deduction to your score. As a note to everybody, I'll likely impose even stricter penalties in future rounds for explanations that go over the word limit by more than a trivial amount, so please try to follow those."

6.6/10 (10 – 3.4 deduction)

Plus a warning about explanation lengths :eli:
