It’s not just celebs. It’s rich people in general. They’ll say they grew up in a working family. And the reason they are where they are today is through hard work. 
 

On the other hand, people that did usually grow up working class or poor. Tend to want to hide they were poor growing up.

I stopped believing these artists sob stories a long time ago.

 

I also never believe the "being discovered" stories. If you look closer all artists want to make it out like they were trying so hard and were discovered by fate because they were so talented, but in reality most of them know someone, or their family knows someone who knows someone who gives them an opportunity.

 

Back in my teen years, teen artist would also try to be relatable, always with stuff like "I sang at high school talent show and someone discovered me" lol. I think Britney is one of the few who always said she had an entertainment lawyer looking for opportunities in  NY.

Because they feel guilty for their super priviledged position and also because capitalism needs to reproduce itself by selling the dream of socioeconomic mobility. If the masses don't think they can become rich through hard work then they will feel like their suffering is fruitless (which it is 99% of the time) and might try to do a revolution. Rich people have to sell that dream in order to keep the wheels of the system running.
