HEAVYONIT Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 SuperBowl halftime shows were traditionally for artists whose careers were basically already over, so Usher fits in perfect for this 4
madonnafan18 Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 I was hoping for N*SYNC, but this is a great choice.

His Billboard Hot 100 history has been posted here already. Reported for ageism too by the way. Who cares? Ask anyone below 30 outside the US to name a single song of his… there will be silence. 1 8

I know he has hits, but he's a 2000s fad, so it'd be boring just to watch him performing all the forgotten hits except Yeah! Swifties showing their ignorance outside of anything Taylor related smh. He has 9 #1 hits and has hits from the 90’s into the 2010’s 5 2

GoodGuyGoneGhetto Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 (edited) 5 minutes ago, Squall said: True but they were on another level. Madonna was still a huge name, especially since she was the biggest touring artist at the time. Okay? Meanwhile Usher remains one of the biggest male music artists in the U.S and, to a great extent, is still the biggest male R&B artist of the 21st century and he means a lot to many AMERICANS, so he should be able to celebrate his legacy on an AMERICAN stage even if he is let his commercial prime. Also, when Prince performed, as legendary as he was, he hadn’t been a commercial factor in 3/4 of a decade - the most attention he’d received in years was performing at the 2004 Grammy’s along with Beyoncé. The superbowl helped him a lot and gave him a lot of press. Not everybody is Madonna. Edited September 24, 2023 by GoodGuyGoneGhetto 4 1

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of this event. This event does not care about millennials or Gen Z outside the United States. That is not who is being targeted for ad dollars. This is a U.S. event. U.S. football is a non-starter outside the States. Just like football in the States isn’t as big. The Super Bowl is a global event by happenstance. NOT ad dollars and demographic targeting. Again, please do your research on stars that are bigger locally and this event in general (AND Usher) before attempting to make any future argument here. 3
PoisonedIvy Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Just now, Don said: Omg they really couldn’t find anyone relevant?! Y’all have no respect for legends The “currently” relevant artists do not deserve a halftime slot yet. Madonna and Prince weren’t “”relevant”” when they did their shows. Hell just 2 years ago we had a group of legends that also aren’t very relevant on todays charts (the Mary J Blige, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg group performance). Music needs to be celebrated across all generations. 11 1
