Treason. Death penalty. :gayalipacat3:

He definitely won’t resign. Most politicians have no integrity. He already dismissed the allegations as normal congressional conduct. :dies:

Not again. The first time I could look over it. This time? Resign. Leave. Get out. So Phil can replace him with someone who can retain the seat and won’t drag down the ticket.

The fact it happened before is so sad. He should immediately be removed and replaced. Another greedy fossil who refuses to give up power for their own greed

@Onyxmage @Ryan Him probably refusing to resign may not mean much cause it's looking more likely he (thankfully) isn't making it out of the primary the nominee.

If he doesn't resign I can see a republican winning his seat..

He’s such a god awful Senator lol. He should resign and Murphy should appoint himself as his replacement because most NJ politicians are also…………..not great, to put it nicely.

Do you agree @Communion

I actually think, if a progressive can knock Menendez out in the primary, the Senate election would be easy for a Dem to win and not necessary for Murphy to do something like that (which would come off as sleazy). With political insiders saying that most of the state's conservatives are instead eyeing to replace Murphy in 2025.

But yes, Menendez is a piece of **** and awful senator:

If Menendez did resign, I think Murphy would be more likely to find some way to connect his replacement to Sheila Oliver's death and the importance of having black women in higher office, saying he is ensuring there's a black woman in the halls of the Senate, etc. and picking someone as a precursor to then run for the seat in November 2024.

It'd give him the chance to usurp Newsom delaying calls to remove Feinstein and replace her with a black woman (+he loves to showboat over other governors) and you easily have someone like Bonnie Watson Coleman who's the rare type of politician to have reach across a myriad of voter groups. The only thing in Bonnie's way is that she's 78 but would win in a landslide.

Even someone as jaded with Dems like me would volunteer if Bonnie ran for Senate. I was actually upset when I had to move a few months ago and realized I moved out of her district.

My state has the most corrupt politicians ever. There has been one senator or governor in the last 30 years without one type of controversy :deadbanana2:.

The only one that was decent was the gay one and even he was scum since he was cheating on his wife with a staffer.

Fam, I used to live in IL and live right outside the state now….as bad as NJ is, IL is worse (Rod Blagovich, Rahm Emanuel, mayor Daily, Lori Lightfood, Kim Foxx, Bruce Rauner, Pat Quinn etc can all attest to that. Even Dick Durbin is one of the most laziest, do nothing senators in the senate currently).

I was gonna say, BWC is pretty great, but still 78 is a bit too old to be entering the senate.

On the surface, he’s MUCH better than Menendez but I’m sure you’d know more

I mean... he's a former CIA centrist in a blue state who now runs to the right after being a centrist in the Obama admin, so of course I'm gonna think he's wholly unfit for the job, and think it's ridiculous that there are *multiple* black progressives in the NJ delegation yet we may end up where the national party tries to clear the field for Kim.

Sending him and Slotkin to the Senate unchallenged will basically confirm the party is not a place for progressive.

Progressives (co-sponsor $17/hr minimum wage, M4A, Expanding SCOTUS)
- Bonnie Watson Coleman
- Donald Payne Jr.

Liberal Dems:
- Frank Palone
- Bill Pascrell

Centrist Dems:
- Rob Menendez
- Andy Kim
- Donald Norcross

DINOs:
- Mikie Sherrill
- Josh Gottheimer

At the end of the day, not supporting M4A is simply a non-starter for me. Andy Kim literally ran last election on being a "proud centrist" who wouldn't be afraid to "stand up to Biden" and other Dems if needed.

It's either Coleman - or Payne if the party think she's too old - or voting 3rd party. :michael:

I see….I wasn’t that familiar with his background so that’s why I asked. I just seen that he was in the progressive caucus when he first joint congress (at least I thought so).

So, probably just a menendez clone minus outright taking bribes then

The issue is that anyone can join any caucus in Congress (obviously you can't be like.. not black and join the Congressional Black Caucus), but things like "Congressional Progressive Caucus" don't have ideological or voting requirements.

So Kim is a CPC member, but is against M4A and the Green New Deal, and all of his hard-right votes in the House come from his national security background:

  • Being against removing troops from Syria
  • Being against removing troops from Somalia
  • For sanctions on solar panels just because they're made in China
  • Against cuts to the defense budget (he has voted against EVERY single DoD cut proposed, even the majority of House dems have voted for it)
  • For unlimited funding for Israel, including the Iron Dome
  • For militarizing the border with troops
  • For Trump-penned sanctions on Iran

He's also one of the most vocal opponents to letting those in prison votes, which is insidious given that Nj has one of the largest *and blackest* prison populations in the country.

He'd obviously be better than like Sherrill or Gottheimer but these people and their crony centrism do not represent the New Jersey that I know and love, and progressives failing to step up, and instead just allow these cronies keys to power will just further disillusion me from thinking the Democratic Party is a worthwhile one.

My NJ isn't anti-poor, anti-immigrant, etc. and I am too tired to ever vote for someone like that ever again. :michael:
