What is the actual female Thriller equivalent

It seems like your posting just successful albums but none of those have the acclaim

1989 and teenage dream did poorly with critics and on decade end lists

21 is the closest but that not even that acclaimed either

I will never understand this take with The Bodyguard being a Whitney album, she sang only sang half of the songs on the soundtrack :rip: the other half was mostly songs by men too nnnn

It's because she had the most songs on the soundtrack compared to all the other artists who each had one.

1989 and 25 did win AOTY at the Grammys just like Thriller tho. But not regarded great like Thriller indeed

Thriller appears in the top 50 in albums of all time lists

The other ones are more like top 500 if they appear on the lists at all. 1989 is not even Taylor's acclaimed album. They are not even close to Thriller in that regard

21, The Bodyguard or Teenage Dream.

1989 only had Shake It Off as a mega WW hit so does not really apply.

Not even on the year end list in 2014 was that high. Thriller was #1 that year everywhere. It was on decade end list. And it is and all time lists. I don't know what you're trying to prove. They are not even close in that regard

Nothing comes close in longevity of this album. If we are stretching this, it would be like:

The Bodyguard, 21 & 25 sales + Teenage Dream #1 hits +

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill & Blue's acclaims +

Madonna discography's impact

the real answer is 21. it’s the only one that has as many accolades as thriller on official charts across all globe (some of its chart runs are very similar actually) and the only one that was doing 2/3x the numbers that the other mainstream releases were doing at the time that the album was released. come on over and the bodyguard are enormous as well and valid answers but they existed in a different context. 21’s numbers should’ve been unachievable for a 2010s release, dominance wise in comparison with the rest of the market is the closest thing we ever got to thriller.

anyway, there isn’t really a comparable album but the closest I can think of is probably something like Come On Over

Because 99% of people bought that album for the Whitney songs which were the only hits from the album, and it was the soundtrack to the film in which she starred and sings in as the lead actress.

Nobody, especially outside the U.S, was buying it for the other songs. :skull:

The Bodyguard, Come On Over or 21 are the closest

But even they don’t compare.

Well the main three everyone brings up are the closest answers (TBG, 21 and COO) but each and all are lacking in several departments in which Thriller succeeds in. And thats really no fault to these women- objectively Thriller isnt a mind-blowing album imo so it isnt quality. but then again no album can compare to Thriller and thats ok. we need to get to the point where we can appreciate each success as its own success.

However not sure why the purposefully ignorant are rearing their heads to ask why TBG is being considered. its a soundtrack yes but nearly every valid chart and certification organization recognizes it as Whitney's album. lets cut the delusions pls.
