I'm reigniting discussion of an LGBT country. I believe we need a backup plan

Hmm :emofish:, I guess all we, as a group, can ultimately hope for is that status quos in western societies remains within the right conditions to uphold the basic rights that we've got. Otherwise (universe-forbid) we got a storm coming.

Perhaps we could always attempt to vigorously move to one area until it just us there (and I'm not solely speaking on JUST gay districts in urban areas, but also have a number of suburban areas and small towns where it's just us there but built from scratch of course). Other groups have done, and still do this all the time. The way I see it, there have historically been whole cities that have been heavily associated with the LGBT (San Francisco being perhaps the best example), so I guess this could be as far as this hypothetical LGBT haven scenario goes.

Personally, I wouldn’t want to live my life only around other LGBT people. That feels a bit limiting, and I value all the non-queer people in my life including family.

Nah. This isn’t it. Yeah - I realize that some countries and cultures essentially force others to do this (due to fear of death or ostracism) but we would have to be better than this. Idk. If it were to even be attempted, there would have to be some sort of… idk… green card/extended visitation thing connecting these individuals to those who are verifiably a permanent resident/citizen. Could you really tell an lgbt couple that their straight children aren’t allowed in? How would bisexuals who end up in heteronormative relationships be handled?

The way I showed up to this thread to sh*t post and you showed up ready for a summit to lay out the societal groundwork for Floptropica.

The gays and our versatility. Is there anything we can’t do minus procreate?

Israel's system basically. Gay people get jerked off by other gay people in the room, right after landing at the airport, therefore proving that they're actually gay, and get their citizenship in under an hour. Male semen gets collected and the send to labs for tests, then later to impregnate volunteering lesbians, who want to have kids. That keeps it anonymous and everyone's happy.

We'll have a constant flow of LGTB applying from different countries.

Is this Israel's system? I'm screaming

Since we’re taking this thread seriously I would like to pitch the idea of no street parking anywhere in Floptropica. Gays are not good at parallel parking and we shouldn’t have to be forced into doing it every time we want to go clubbing. #EndParallelParking

Logically this is not feasible at all, but as a gay from third world country who wishes to escape, I want this country to exist so bad :emofish:

There have been prominent gay scientists in the past. Artificial insemination is already a thing. We can do anything with the right resources 👏🏻

I'm in if we make it a law that in order to become a citizen of this newly founded country, you need to buy and stream Bionic.

The safest option is really for us to normalize being queer in every country

It’s gonna take 100s of years, but hopefully we’ll get there one day

Couldn't we start off small in that case and just build up from there? I know there most definitely are a sizeable amount of LGBT people in militaries across the world. Plus we got a number of straight allies as well that I'm sure are willing to go to bat for us if it ever need be. We also have a few key players in high places (governments and the elite) that could maybe get some moves going in place for us.

As far as where we'd get the land for this, I'm just throwing it out there but perhaps we could start off as some sort of resort city somewhere, on an island. Or maybe just purchase some unclaimed rural area in a western country and just become an unofficial LGBT state. Or we could even become some sort of floating-city too.

You realize none of what you’re saying makes sense right? Like none of it is possible. It would literally be Israel for the gays. But this time even worse.

Ask Haiti how that turned out

I think you all get this wrong.

I truly believe we need something like the Vatican City so we can have representation in the political arena and our group of people/politicians can promote our rights in the UN and alike. Maybe they can provide shelter for LGBTQ people fleeing from execution.

Not that we would move to a different country all together :rip:

Believe it or not, Marvel Comics has actually explored why this probably wouldn’t work out

Omg yeah I forgot about Genosha! Who would our Magneto be? RuPaul? :rip:

And I'm reigniting my point that this is how Zionism started! And it would leave queer youth completely unprotected in "straight countries".

OT: in a perfect world, we didn't have to hide in a place.

The fact that thoughts like these are happening just say how much we are trouble

In a perfect world, we wouldn’t even need a hypothetical country like this. Everyone would simply live in harmony and accept their differences. What you’re proposing is the creation of a nation-state and that is a massive undertaking.

First, before you even discuss capital you’d need to lay the groundwork for what this country is about. I’m talking about a constitution. Then you’d need to figure where in the world this hypothetical country would be, it would probably have to be on an island not owned by any countries, but even then a country nearby might claim domain because of how controversial an LGBT country in their backdoor would look like. Let’s say you get past those issues. Now you’d need to secure capital. You’re not just building a community, but you’re talking about a fully-fledged nation-state so you’ll need all the key components of a nation-state. You’ll need a hospital, schools, homes, plumbing, means of electricity, law enforcement, functional military, and even a counter–intelligence team which I’ll get into later. You’re looking at billions needed.

If you don’t have all of these things up and running, your nation-state will be destroyed from the inside out in no time. You will be recognized by very few countries. As others have mentioned, your nation-state will be a target for many. You can bet on every Muslim nation seeking to destabilize your nation through international condemnation & ridicule, unwarranted sanctions and embargoes, and state sanctioned attacks. You know the Russian state despises anything LGBT+ so their cyber wing would target the infrastructure there on a consistent basis and this can affect things like the power-grid which would have an impact on a devastating scale. Maybe if you’re lucky, you can be in the good graces of the CIA, FBI, M5, M6, and Mossad. You'll have a fighting chance to counter the daily cyberattacks and thwart any potential terror attacks on soil.

Just know a couple commando teams could absolutely land on shore and make a killing and massacre everyone that lives in that nation-state. So you’d need to ensure that you have a military that can defend its shores. You probably won’t see any F35s defending your airspaces like ever because 1 F35 is going to cost $70+ million and you’re looking at $30,000 per flight hour. Your ground forces and amphibious forces would at least need to have some deterrents since you’re never going to be given nukes.

I love coming up with my own countries and figuring out how they would work, but your hypothetical country would be a nightmare to deal with, unless you’re being backed by a gay Elon Musk with billions to float, and even then you’d still face some extraordinary risks. The best alternative to this would be to establish a community within a Western nation that is open to LGBT+. Vote for city officials and representatives that have the community's interest at heart, support LGBT+ businesses within that city, create a highly trained police force that protects the community tooth and nail and has an eye for people that seek to do harm to the community. If that community can flourish and thrive, LGBT+ from all around the world will want to gravitate to that city and it can serve as a shining example. If anyone knows of a city like this, let me know!

No shade, but this is really one of the craziest thing I've ever read on this forum :skull:
