THIS is the man that co-founded a magazine centered around a genre invented by POC?  :deadbanana4:

seriously this. all they did was give him more of a platform to spread his willfully ignorant ideals and values.

That’s silly. He did an interview where he exposes his ignorance and now we are aware. You think this is going to recruit people to his mindset?

Everything alright?

Yes. In 2023 where we see people mindlessly follow Trump despite literally everything and we know people continue to loudly be racist, homophobic and misogynistic...yes.

Yes. Not sure where you have been the past 10 years. But there’s millions of people on one side of the political spectrum who support this brand of racism, misogyny and anti intellectualism. In fact a few of them have been popular politicians.

Maybe I should delete this comment so someone doesn't see it and mindlessly think this reductive and misguided thinking is somehow astute.

Oh god, you must think representation is the same thing as endorsement, too.

Reductive and misguided? Baby where have you been? Even on this very site there people who are mindlessly following racist and misogynistic people and go through dog whistle terms to rile people up. Just yesterday ya deleted a thread about Cardi defending herself being in hiphop culture cuz there was literally people in that thread that's don't think she's Black. There's nothing reductive on this baby but delete right away. Doesn't erase what's actually goin on.

Am I saying there aren't people that will call his ass out and he will issue a halfass apology? No. But there's def people reading that article and agreeing with him unironically.

OT: Racist guy says racist stuff and given a platform to speak on it. News at 11

This whole "deplatforming" activism of the last few years is such a weak response from a culture that would rather shove bad or uncomfortable things down and pretend they don't exist than confront them! How would it be more useful to bury an interview with one of the the most influential music journalists of all time completely showing his ass and the problems with how we canonize?

He's 77 years old. This isn't the first or last interview he's been like this. We've seen history that shaming him now through this interview isn't gonna change much or blackball him from the industry. If this was earlier in his career, sure. But theres still gonna be people call him a legend despite this.

I never said to "BURY" his interview, I'm saying this isn't gonna change anything other than people pissed off on one end ( which..check X) and have other people agree with him ( which again...check X). How is this interview useful at all? I'm sure Gen Z didn't even know who the hell he was until this week tbh.

Jann always gave big racist teas and this just re-affirms it. The way he twisted himself into a pretzel to make his blatant racism and ignorance sound sensible is disgusting but par for the course with his ilk. The AUDACITY to say some foolishness like this when it was black artists that created the genre that all the so called "intellectual" white rockers that he worships thrived in. I hope Little Richard haunts him in his ******* dreams. Stupid ***** lol.

Anyone who attempts to disrespect and/or minimize the vast contributions of black art to the paradigm, especially of the pioneers, cannot and should not be allowed to be an authority on any popular music, Rock music included. And this goes for those of you here that try it while we're at it. I can't take what you think you know about music seriously. Black artists all over the diaspora have set the tone for popular music in immeasurable ways, especially in the last 100 years. Respect and acknowledge it or stop calling yourself a fan of music. PeriodT.

This interview has already proven useful because several music critics and historians have responded to it with more background for the rest of us that weren't around in the 60s and 70s putting his words in context of why Rolling Stone was always late to youth music culture and contributed to genre erasure such as crediting Blondie with Hip Hop lol

I'm not sure what your point is, this is a music forum, this is a thread about one of the most influential figures in American music criticism; it's discourse, it doesn't have to change the world.

Ya keep making assumptions over me initially saying yes to the mod asking if this type of mindset will bring more racists and misogynists to speaking more. I'm not asking that we should stop talking about it or asking to change the world either :ahh:

People like him should have stop being given a platform to scream his outdated views to the public no matter how influential he is. Thats the point. All its doing its just piss people off and reaffirms some people's ideology.  It's crazy that ya getting mad over me expressing that he shouldn't be able to express the views he's expressing on a thread that's most of the comments are completely against what he said.

You should think about taking these unintelligible, unengaging writing skills to Rolling Stone. You’d fit in.

When I was referring to the zeitgeist, I was referring to Black performers, not to the female performers, OK?

Insofar as the women, just none of them were as articulate enough on this intellectual level.

People like this deserve to feel ostracized and out of touch with modern society.
