That seems like an unlikely reason for them to release an album, but the photoshoot probably was very expensive (mostly because it’s Steven Klein), and until now that was mostly sunk promotional costs. Add to that the costs of actually producing the album, and you start to see a picture where scrapping an album that was seemingly complete or nearly complete is an incredibly bad move if there aren’t very, very good reasons behind it. It would be one thing if promotional materials hadn’t been created yet, but the whole shoot was done and paid for way before the album was scrapped.

 

It’s possible that Kim proposed the release because of the reasons she mentioned in her tweet, and then her label agreed because at this point leaving it off streaming is largely just leaving money on the table that could offset the costs of making the album and getting the photoshoot done. They probably expected a better return from Feed The Beast, too, after Unholy, so that also factors into things.
