Leigh-Anne f/ Ayra Starr - "My Love"

It’s the contrast between the light airy head voice vocals in the verses with the rich textured layered vocals in the chorus that makes this truly KNOCK :jonny5:

The PR approved version of “my label aren’t letting me release it until I get a hit” dddd

The interviewer lying and saying "Don't Say Love has blown up" :deadbanana2:

Is it just me who thinks this song sounds more like a July / August than a September radio song? :jonny2:

I prefer DSL but this sounds much more like a lead

It's cute, not sure if I love it though. Might need a few more spins to decide

Ok so I just listened on Spotify with Don’t Say Love on after and that is a really solid 1-2 punch

Almost wish this was the lead but I love both songs so far. Only thing I would've preferred was if there were more adlibs/high notes as the song progressed because her voice is perfect for finding small details on later listens.

Bop! But I can’t see this going top20.

Me either BUT this is the direction she should be going in. Completely different from LM’s discography and it should gain her some new fans too.

The chorus is the best part for me. The verses need to grow on me. I think once the video comes out I’ll be completely sold on the song as a whole.

Same!

Willing her the top 10. I literally don't care if it's just for one week. The song is that deserving.

Incredibly baffled at how this wasn't the lead single. Like WTF?

It's so much more deserving of the solo launch hype DSL got. I almost need it to go top 10 because if not then going with DSL over this will forever annoy me. With the initial buzz around her, kicking off with this would easily have been the #10 (minimum) to the painfully annoying #11 peak of DSL. Just on the merit of being a much better song with buckets more replay value.

I think this song and Ayra will give her more international reach.

I hadn't heard of her before until the collab was announced, either way it's a good song and whatever happens happens chart wise.

The twins. So wholesome

Far better than that trash DSL. I love the verses the chorus is kinda weak though. hopefully she keeps getting better.

Ayra is like the rising Princess of Afrobeats, with a couple of BIG global bops (Bloody Samaritan and Rush. Afrobeats acts release a LOT of music and generally don't follow the typical "single 1, single 2 then album" format. Hence, the big reach already.

As you said, it'll help with the international reach (which is smart in this climate).

I like the idea of thinking worldwide already, but the reality is that Ayra probably won't do much for the single's homesoil success as she herself hasn't smashed commercially in the UK. So, that is gonna be on the label with radio, streaming, and lots and lots of TV promo.

Also, listening to this in its mini EP form on her Spotify (My Love + DSL) really makes it glaringly clear how superior it is to DSL.

My Love is big, melody-heavy, and her voice is padded really nicely on the chorus. It's global sounding too.

DSL, by comparison, is quite jarring on the ear production-wise and kind of hangs her out there in a very vocally-bear way. It's not terrible, but I'd go as far to say that if My Love does well, she should consider not including DSL on the album at all IMO. They don't sound like they belong on the same album IMO.

Video out tomorrow at 5pm BST.
