Leigh-Anne f/ Ayra Starr - "My Love"

Hmm.

Interested to hear her on an Afro-Pop bop, but I’m a lil concerned.

The relatively drastic switch in sound could polarize an audience that was probably already expecting Little Mix-lite from DSL before it dropped and ended up leaning more Garage.

Also, the Afrobeats scene is quite contained / gatekept. I’ve yet to see an external international act penetrate the scene if they aren’t generally in it and of it. The irony being that Afrobeats acts have been scoring major mainstream  moments of late by teaming with international acts (e.g. Rema x Selena). So this is a great look for Ayra, but I’m not so sure if it works the same the other way around.

With Leigh-Anne, while I’m excited to hear the song, I’m not filled with early confidence about its charting ability. Nor it really roping in a harem of new fans from the Afro diaspora.

We’ll see.

I really wish her team (between management and label) would be able to secure her some kind of major surefire feature. Especially if they are open to genre hopping. Anyone from the likes of Calvin Harris, Dave, Central Cee, Stormzy, even Joel Corry would help her make up the streaming shortfall she has due to essentially being a new act.

On a random but related tip, I like how economical/cost-effective her team are being. DSL shot in Turkey and second single in Lagos. Definitely a cost cutting exercise. It very much gives “playing the long game”. Now, let’s just hope they use some of the saved coins towards playlisting and payola to give her the nudge she needs.

Yes. My Love is the second single and Stealing Love the third. Each single being more R&B than the one released before.

Fourth single is 4 Love.

Idk the featured artist but excited to listen!

I thought they'd have had a bigger feature though..

Oooh this is interesting. Can’t wait to hear Leigh on an Afrobeats style track and I am so happy for Ayra securing this collaboration. Ayra is a rising star (pun intended), Rush was just the start but she needs an international breakthrough smash.

Garage isn't polarizing for Mixers, the fan fav album track (Happiness) from their last album was the closest they've had to a garage inspired song :nicole2: the issue is that the GP is unaware she released anything at all, and her fanbase isn't exactly the biggest to carry a whole single campaign. She released the signed CDs and disappeared to get married.

I’m excited to listen! Whilst I understand her label’s decision to go with a pop leaning track to introduce her solo career (to keep Little Mix fans onboard) I do think they’d have been better off just launching her as an out and out RnB artist from the beginning.

It would take her longer to reach the levels of commercial success her label are clearly hoping for, but she’d at least be able to carve out a lane that helps her stand out from Little Mix and find her own niche as a solo artist. Switching up to RnB now is going to give people the impression that she or her team don’t know what her artistic identity is.

Regardless, I’m not expecting much commercially so I just hope I enjoy the song as releasing more music is the best way to build her audience.

DSL was low key Little Mix-lite though, it has garage infused production but it was a pop song, and not a million miles from something Little Mix could have recorded.

Sounds worse than DSL

This is promising! Loving the sound and way better choreo, it’s showing more of what sort of artist Leigh-Anne wants to be. We all know she’s an R&B girl, she even said it the other week that is where her heart lies.

Hoping the video is choreo focused!

This is going to go hard at the African hall parties! I really hope this at least secures her a fanbase in Africa at least. :heart2:

it sounds interesting!

giving her at least some personality to her sound

while DSL sounded like it could've been by literally anyone

DSL is a bop and this sounds promising -- hopefully she has an actual album coming.

Well ...

Im super happy they have already planned 3 singles and i hope AT LEAST one becomes a big hit in the UK to launch her album

Leigh-Anne is my favorite and im praying she will have a hit ( at least in UK )

DSL was not really my thing unfortunately but i was sure it will do well in the UK so i really dont know what to expect anymore

I LOOOOOOOOVE the snippet , this could be one of my fav songs this year but this could go either way ... either a big hit or a big flop
