It spilled over everywhere, that’s why her Instagram comments have been locked since 2016. The snakes wouldn’t stop pouring in in the comments. And there were news pieces about her, articles, interviews, etc. that’s why the opening of the reputation tour is sound bites of reporters trashing her. She might not have been “canceled” enough for you but it most certainly did extend beyond just twitter.

girl, even if people around you irl didnt talk about it, people who kept up w pop culture and/or watched the news knew, talked and discussed it. like i said, it went on for days, not hours.

That's called backlash, not cancellation.

Y'all don't understand what cancelled means  A large amount of people criticising someone or tweeting negative things about them isn't the same thing as being cancelled.

It definitely wasn’t as “cool” to like her at that time and it was pretty easy to criticize her in 2016-17 for some of her what I’d called “cringe” behavior, but I don’t know a single irl Swiftie who ever actually dropped her during 2016-17. I will admit I found her kind of a little cringy back then. 
 

 I don’t think that era’s backlash was as catastrophic as people presume.  From HER perspective, as she discussed in her documentary, which I watched, it was very difficult on her, which is of course natural & understandable. But from a career perspective, she was mostly fine. She still opened with 1.2M for reputation the following year. Most pop girl’s show way more signs of true career damage after a flop era, she did not.

 

I think a lot of the backlash in 2016-17 was due to overexposure, she was everywhere from late 2014 up to early 2016, and like now, her tour was making weekly headlines for its guest performances, celeb VIP show-ups, her “squad”, various social media posts she would make at this time, etc. she was inescapable. so when Kanye/Kim, these huge celeb figures, went after her, it was easy for the members of the GP who had gotten tired of her in general to have that form of release and approval from someone bigger to finally be publically, rather than privately, annoyed with her. I’m not defending Kanye/Kim because I think what they did to her was dead wrong and Taylor was in the right 100%, but I’m just objectively explaining what I think happened during that fiasco.

I think she’s so famous now, and her fanbase so large and passionate, that what happened in 2016 won’t happen again. She’s way too famous to ever have a downfall now.
