Joe Germanotta speaks out against Immigrants: "They're guests & they are taking over"

To give the rat his credit, there’s some pretty important context missing from the OP. He is literally quoted in the article as saying:

Quote

“I don’t mind having them there. They’re gonna be there for three years. That was the contract, I understand. But at least manage it. Put the proper security in place, have a police presence and a code of conduct,” the popstar’s father said.

From what I understand, a building in his street was turned into a ‘migrant dormitory’ overnight with over 500 migrants brought in secretly by bus, bringing block parties, prostitution, needles, catcalls etc into what was previously a very rich area with no warning. So yes his take is entitled old rich white man territory for sure, but I don’t think it’s especially evil in this instance - he’s at least complaining about a very specific (and obviously mismanaged) attempt to house migrants in NYC, rather than complaining about immigration in general or suggesting that all migrants are prostitutes, drug addicts etc. And there is at least some awareness of the migrants themselves not being the issue but rather the mishandling of them by NYC authorities (though the calls for increased police presence will obviously earn him plenty of eye rolls).

Ok I’m done defending the rat, that’s my civic duty as a Gaga fan done for 2023.

Is there any evidence to this? These are usually much more common among Americans than Latinos/immigrants. Particularly heroin use or the good old bady "needles" :katie:

Germanotta...a typical surname discending from autochthonous native people in america :deadbanana:

I support soft capitalism like in Scandinavian countries. More taxes for the rich and more welfare for the poor.

No evidence whatsoever. Literally just his word. His opinionated, biased, Trump-supporting word.

What a vile scumbag.

Just goes to show that white men are the most easy demographic to brainwash with anti-POC propaganda. This man grew up in a liberal city with a liberal wife and daughters and still believed this ****. I feel bad for his family.

Let us be real here, he is not coming at this from a nuanced perspective. At the end of the day, this Fox-loving loser's problem is that black immigrants are living across the street from him. Complaining about "block parties, prostitution, needles, and catcalling" as if those things are exclusive to immigrants and have not already been a problem for NYC for decades, is disingenuous. Where were these complaints about white people doing all of this for the past 100 years?

Well, when you can provide proof of this accusation then we will talk about it.

I’ve noticed a lot of people lumping together migrants with other homeless and drug addicted people on the streets in New York and they are not one in the same

Exactly. He's just parroting the ignorant gullible racist dogwhistle, vilifying migrants and making them the scapegoat, but they are not the ones making the streets unsafe. It's the exponentially greater amount of mentally ill homeless people, forsaken by their government and elected officials, who have completely changed the feeling of this city in the last few years. I've never seen it as bad or felt as unsafe, and that feeling couldn't have less to do with migrants who are largely harmless.

They’re guests in our neighborhood, and they have basically taken over.” “Most of the people in (my) building are owners. This is the same thing people once said about the Italians who left during the diaspora. He's an idiot.

He should move to the sewers.  Less immigrants and more rats he’d love it.

There is a clear distinction between an immigrant and a migrant- not sure if Joe is unaware of this or the OP.

Either way, I feel his intent here is clear. It comes from a place of selfishness and them being "the other". There is certainly many countries where (im)migration is an issue due to lack of housing etc and it is a valid topic but I don't think that's Joe's angle imo.

This coming from an Italian man is soooooo rich :rip:

Thankfully her daughter doesn't think the same and preaches for the opposite values. That's what matters in here, not a hundred years old man opinion.

"This guy" it's her dad

From the statement, he isn't opposed to immigrants/immigration, he's upset about the behavior of a specific crowd of people living in a building in his neighborhood.

Exhausting and disappointing
