Trent W Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 As if the American education system wasn’t already the worst in the western world Sometimes I feel like America is just a farm for the oligarchs. I know this is only in Florida but it’s really scary how republicans think and what they’ve been doing for decades 2 1
Katamari Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 This in high schools right? I don’t think any parent had an issue with it back when I took it but FLA is full of snowflakes now so who knows Desantis is unraveling omg. He’s over!
Illuminati Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 (edited) ummm the bar for this stupidity is where Edited August 3, 2023 by Illuminati
Artist Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 People feel threaten by a course? You really can't take politics seriously. This should be illegal - how can it be legal to intervene with people's ability to think?
stochastic Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Just let them secede or submerge into the ocean already
Velvet Night Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Florida Republicans: “We don’t want our young people to actually understand how sociopathic we are!”
Beyonnaise Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 This is so embarrassing and will hurt genuinely good schools like U Miami
HausofNick Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 (edited) Reminder that republicans in Florida bitched about how gays/trans folk shouldn't be talked about in K-3 education a couple of years ago, but now it's gone beyond that to affect up to the 12th grade (and even into public universities where he's banned all DEI-related funded programs). It's never been "about the children." DeSatan and his racist, bigoted, and idiotic clan want to brainwash the next generation of Florida to hate and shun gay/trans people. NoOneDiesFromLove Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 What the hell?? Why is that allowed I guess it's back to the 1900s
305 Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 It's really ******* sad to see my home state being run to the ground. It literally gets worse every week. I'm not even considering moving back for a LONG time.
EnigmaticAndroid Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Absolutely f*cking ridiculous Between this and the acceptance of PragerU into Florida curriculum (which is blatant propaganda and unaccredited), I really hope someone takes this to court. It's shameful.
Rotunda Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 (edited) I don’t even think gender/sexuality were really discussed when I took AP Psych so this feels very random . Maybe a little bit about Freud/The Oedipus Complex? Edited August 3, 2023 by Rotunda

TheLastChord Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Y'all need to UNDERSTAND that this state was a purple state in 2016. There's historically solid red states that have better legislation than Florida right now and I'm lost for words at how this can be possible.
Miss Show Business Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 (edited) When are the courts going to start gutting these ridiculous laws? Isn't Florida piled with lawsuits? When are the federal courts going to step in? Edited August 3, 2023 by Miss Show Business

Sannie Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 (edited) This is pretty devastating for any high school student who wants to be a psychologist or go to college for something related to psychology?? This is going to make getting accepted so much harder. Students and parents alike should be furious. But I guess that is the goal. Republicans do not want kids going to college and getting an education because then they will not get their votes. 42 minutes ago, TheLastChord said: Y'all need to UNDERSTAND that this state was a purple state in 2016. They had a big red wave a few years back that gave GOP full control of everything, and now the GOP is bulldozing through with these ridiculous laws. There will be blowback and I can almost guarantee the next governor will be a Democrat. The MAGAs in FL are loud online, but there are millions of Floridians who are pissed at everything DeSantis is doing because he is causing a genuine problem for them in terms of home insurance, cost of living, etc. I almost would not put it past the GOP to attempt some kind of law that would allow DeSantis to run for or even stay governor. He also banned courses that "distort the truth of historical events," which he includes as courses that teach identity politics and Critical Race Theory. This is forcing department heads at the universities to basically rethink/restructure/reconsider majors and courses because they may be deemed "woke" by Desantis' terms. He's essentially brainwashing his base in the state to believe that DEI programs are brainwashing/indoctrination tools created by non-conservatives.

There’s so much to unpack with this comment I’m not sure where to start. You seem mystified as if to imply the state has a chance to become purple again - if you have a plan regarding shifting the social views of the Cuban influx to Miami that started in the mid-2010’s, then great, good luck. Also, there’s a lot coverage on Ron’s team running the legislature like a mob boss. Also AP Psych getting fixed to a fascist vision matters more in Florida then in Mississippi, where ANY college education becomes more of a moot point based on stats of entry alone. It’s not a worthwhile comparison.
