Why's Carey top billed in a Leonard Bernstein biopic?

no. her name also came first in the trailer. it's pretty much focused on Bernstein's relationship with her character. everyone that follows classical music knows he used to get around with plenty of men until his death. i'm very conservative of how this film will frame his sexuality and its context if the whole plot focus on his heterossexual relationship, carey's name is billed first and we only see one male lover throughout the teaser

his homosexuality will be very important in the movie. Again the source i talked about told me it's very explicit (with gay sex). Then the centre of his live was her wife, it's not like a secondary character, she was very important. So thinking they should make only a movie about him hooking with boys makes no sense.

The choice of the poster could be cause the movie put the condition of women at the centre of the plot. The role she has in her relationship can be a metaphore of women's role in society.

And of course Carey Mulligan is over the phase of being on a movie as the secondary character of the wife of....  a prominent role for her was predictable if she accepted it.

Movies can be about more than one thing, but It doesn’t sit right with me to take one of the few people in classical music that were highly relevant and homossexual, in a time of deep sexual persecution, to make a comment about women’s role in society in a heterossexual relationship, that he kept as a façade, even though he cared deeply about her. They could have written any anonymous character for Carey to play set in the 1940s. Such movie was already made by the way and it’s called Far from Heaven with Julianne Moore. I’ll wait to see how his sexuality is portrayed to have a final judgment, but the teasers are not cutting it so far.

This is either going to be exceptional or be a try-hard embarrassment.

I have faith in Bradley as a director and Carey Mulligan usually picks amazing scripts so I have faith.

Wasn’t he closeted most of his life? If so I can see why they mainly focus most on his straight marriage. It’s sad but true how much in the past, queer people put on a façade to be deemed worthy to society and to live “prosper.”

Carey is amazing as usual :heart2:

I’m not sure what Carey Mulligan is doing here. Bradley looks like he’s doing a good job.

Carey deserved 2 Oscars for her role in An Education alone.

Weird prosthetic aside, I’m excited to see this movie. The cinematography looks stunning!

People are ALL OVER this on Reddit because of the prosthetic nose. What do y'all think? I thought it was completely unnecessary....it's giving me Yunioshi from Breakfast at Tiffany's vibes.

Let’s hope the trailer is misleading and she serves in the actual movie.

I'm not advocating it's offensive. But unnecessary, distracting, and an odd directorial choice..um maybe
