slw84 Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 I know people are not listing legend Elizabeth on there. I just know someone is going to bring up Cher. The girl from My Cousin Vinny Marisa Tomei???? is my pick.

Feanor Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 For 'Best Actress' specifically, these are definitely up there… Norma Shearer, The Divorcee Luise Rainer, The Good Earth Judy Holliday, Born Yesterday Grace Kelly, The Country Girl Elizabeth Taylor, BUtterfield 8 Gwyneth Paltrow, Shakespeare In Love Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side 5
Kylizzle Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 The Blind Side was a ridiculous win but one of my favorite speeches.
Bears01 Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 (edited) Gwyeneth Paltrow for Shakespeare In Love. Such a mid performance for a Mid movie, but Harvey Weinstein ran Hollywood at the time. Cate Blanchett gave one of the best performances of the 90’s and was completely robbed. I wouldn’t say it’s one of the worst, but Sandra Bullocks performance in the Blind Side was nothing special whatsoever. Edited July 29, 2023 by Bears01 2
Dark Miracles Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Dern and Curtis winning Supporting Actress for completely mid performances 4
ScubaDive Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Sandra Bullock gave an amazing speech to make up for it.
Antisocialites Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine, Joan Fontaine in Suspicion and Charlize Theron in Monster. 1 11
Nashe Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Adore Sandra Bullock, but yeah. That wasn't an Oscar-worthy role and performance.
teresaguidice Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 gwyneth is actually so charming in shakespeare in love that that i don't find her more undeserving than most mid wins based on strong campaigns (like emma stone in la la land, jennifer lawrence in silver linings, helen hunt literally the year before for as good as it gets, all perfectly fine but not incredible feats of acting by any stretch and driven by the likability of the actress). sandra bullock, jamie lee curtis, allison janney, and laura dern wins were all bad and awards for their other work. very unpopular but i think marion cotillard is awful in la vie en rose. eddie redmayne was also an awful win. 2

dussel_06 Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 All of them are great. But i think Olivia Coleman. She’s excellent, as all of them, but there’s someone that outshine her and more deserving in that year. 1 3
bad guy Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Gwenyth immediately came to mind. Harvey Weinstein's purchase influence over that win was a huge stain for the Academy. 4

TaylorNation Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Sandra Bullock Rami Malek Casey Affleck Leo DiCaprio/Jaime Lee Curtis (would put them in the same category because they were clearly legacy wins) bonus: Sam Smith (after making that horribly cringing and embarrassing speech I would never leave my house anymore) 2

Mitsouko Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Most wins from the first half of the history of the Oscars are ALL wrong. Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor x2 in particular. Besides those, Jessica Lange in Blue Sky was notably underwhelming. Helen Hayes was good in Airport, idk what that tweet is on about.
