discussion Have you ever had to call 911?

There was an incident at my workplace last week, and without going into further detail, I had to call 911. It was my first time calling, and I wasn't sure what to expect. Thankfully the situation resolved without incident while on the phone with them, but it was low-key daunting even dialling those numbers into my phone even though no one was hurt in the end. A little ironic because I was joking about calling 911 with someone else earlier on in the day 

 

Have you ever had to dial into 911, or the emergency services in your country? What was the experience like? Did things turn out okay?

I’ve had to do it twice, both times in the car. 

 

Once was because of some crazy dangerous driving, wrong way, high speeds, mounting pavements and stuff but no-one was injured. 
 

Another time was due to someone totalling their car on the highway in front of me and I was the first car behind them which was suuuuper scary. I never knew what happened to them though because I told the operator I wasn’t going to get out and look because they were in a convertible and I just didn’t wanna see the aftermath of that

Yes, last summer, I found a man on the ground unresponsive while I was running.

Personally, I think maybe twice. It all ended up okay.

 

Work related, too many to count. They all turned out to be okay in the end, but there were some… very bad situations, including an overdose. That was the most anxiety-ridden one.

That's horrid  I'm sorry you had to experience those situations, but thank you for the app rec it sounds amazing to have on hand!

Yes, many times. But mainly health/accident related, nothing more.

I've had to a few times because of my job. Mostly just because of public disturbances or really bad fights breaking out.

Yeah, but they didn’t pick up 

 

Someone in the family needed an ambulance and I called 911 because I was panicking but they didn’t pick up and on the second time I could hear nothing on the other end

Once when I was coming home from work on a stormy evening while walking along 9th Ave in Manhattan. Some elderly man fell into a puddle and was laying there in a struggle to get up. A lot of people just walked by doing nothing. I called 911, stayed, crouched by him to share my umbrella and waited to go on my way until an ambulance showed up.

I had to one time when I saw a man collapse on the street. I was so nervous, and kinda froze when they asked me the location.
