At the beginning, Barbie 2023 was the bigger event since movies are usually bigger events than tours. In the long run however, The Eras Tour will have a bigger and long-lasting impact.

I only say Eras is bigger because it's predicted to stimulate the U.S economy by 4.6 billion and to make over 1 billion as well. Taylor saved us from a recession y'all

 

But, impact is Barbie because more people will see it/more accessible

Barbie is going to be seen for years and decades to come, the tour ends when the tour ends and everyone forgets about it when the next tour comes around.

Tour gross numbers are also inflated by a large price tag for each individual while movie tickets pale in comparison. Barbie is projected to gross more than one billion with a smaller price tag per person. It is a much bigger global event in numbers as well.

Barbie won't be talked about outside the opening weekend + maybe the week after. The Eras Tour has been a non stop event of the half a year or so, making the news on almost daily for breaking this or that record or for causing hysteria in various places across the globe, with heads of states and mayors openly begging Taylor to visit, and various financial institutions crediting it for local economic impact. By the end of the year it will be the biggest female tour ever, and next year the biggest tour of all time. Barbie can enjoy the biggest opening of 2023 (so far) though. Indeed, they are incomparable.

And how many people would have seen the eras tour clips on social media wishing they could go? The demand is literally 10x the availability of tickets (if not more). She could literally gross 10B with this tour if she wanted. There are numerous cinemas everywhere, but there's only one Taylor Swift. The New York Times did a very long and insightful podcast precisely on this point and I couldn't help but agree

The fact that a tour can even be in the conversation of a mass cultural event as a major motion picture blockbuster says ALOT about that tour.  
 

I live next to a theater and when the Eras Tour was in town, it was a much bigger event.  However, the Eras tour is only going to 20 cities.  The Barbie movie is all over the US.

Weird comparison. But I guess no one in music can match to Taylor's reign right now so you guys try to match her to a blockbuster movie.
