John Slayne Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 you're just old. there's more music being released now than ever, you just need to look for what you like. also if tattoo is your highlight of this year's music your taste is questionable too, so i'm even more inclined to say music is not getting bad. 1
HANZ94 Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 We are getting old sis the only artists I really enjoy from this new generation are Billie Eilish and Blackpink but I give zero fucks about everyone else
Leptine Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 There is still good new music but you need to search between niche artists like indeed Jessie Ware that you posted, I would say there's definitely a decline between new mainstream artists but with some exceptions.
Genius1111 Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 I've felt that mainstream music in English has been mediocre since 2012. 2011 was the last great year me. I used to think 2010 was a rather meh year for music, but I've changed my mind since 2012 and everything after that, in comparison, have been far worse. I love the sound of the mid/late 2000s and the early 2010s and I guess I'm just stuck there mentally. For music recommendations, I usually just look at the end-of-year lists that AcclaimedMusic.net compiles and I will just start from there. I've also been busier as a working adult, and I'm also prioritizing LGBT dramas now .

Labels aren’t pushing superstars anymore, they’re pushing faux relatable stars. No more larger than life stars, but artists who need to develop a close relationship with their fans. Indie, bedroom and alt-pop is winning ground everywhere. This is the absolute worst time to be a pop stan Yep. Anyone who says it’s being old isn’t paying attention - also a large portion of it and to do with the decline of linear cable, if Olivia Rodrigo performs at the VMAs it just doesn’t have the same pull it does when Britney or Christina did in the early or late 2000s. Pop culture was huge because everyone knew of certain events, even people who were casual followers. There was a time where Britney smoking a cigarette was literally on the news. The new pop girls aren’t going to get that treatment, it’s just a diff time and like I said everyone lives in their own algorithm. 1
Winged Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 Probably both our music taste changes with age it will settle eventually
McNulty Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 You're just old and in 6 years you will yell at younger people and their music
Aethereal Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 My brain is still stuck in early 2010s with Britney, Beyonce, Katy, Gaga, Adele, Rihanna, Lana and Taylor. At most I can accept Ariana Grande for the later stages of music. So age definitely plays a role but there are other significant reasons too. 1
Samsara Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Calling music nowadays mediocre is being generous. Disposable trash is more like it.
harwee Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Combination of both. You start feeling like you've heard it all as you get old but at the same time everything seem bland because they're all right at your fingertips for $10 a month takes away their specialness feel all disposable.

With the rise of grunge and then techno music, things were fresh and new all the time. When I went to my first rave in '96, I had never heard techno music in my life. It wasn't on the radio or in TV commercials or movies. So my first exposure to it radically changed my life. nowadays, yes, I have heard it all cuz it's all a derivative off EDM. I'm glad I grew up when I did. Things were way more exciting.
Chemist Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Female Pop music is really stale at this moment, you should start exploring independent artists/stop stanning "success". It is the most toxic and useless **** ever I am an indie fan and I never get bored. There literally is every week something (great) new coming out
Gyal Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 at least back in the day if you couldn't sing you'd at least dance your ass off like paula abdul nowadays ppl do neither
Bacardo Royale Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 You're getting old. The generations before you would probably consider your faves as "bad music" too
FreeXone Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 (edited) No the new artist just suck. My parents and grandparents were able to click with the major artist of my generation like Gaga, Beyoncé and Pink and Ariana. These gen z pop girls just SUCK ASS But flip side there are a lot of good lower tier artist due to streaming. There is lots of good music it just isn’t pushed mainstream. So no you’re not getting old. You just acknowledge how lazy the industry has gotten and everyone says that. No more artist development. Edited July 11, 2023 by FreeXone
Unreachable101 Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Music is bad, the charts arent interesting and todays artists run in the same circles as influencers :/
Cyanide Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 The mainstream is pretty much dead, but there’s good new indie and K-pop music, and also years and years of amazing music from 1960-2012 to listen to as well we’re just going through a lull rn
CBC Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 you're just not looking in the right places, mainstream music has gone to **** since like 2013
