Critics nowadays just either 1) go along with the trend/discourse in a sloppily written review, 2) give a good review to make the fans happy or 3) write some edgy critique to get clicks. There was just 1 single album that got a Metascore below 60 in 2023. There’s no reason for me to care about their opinion. Grammys are equally as useless as critics. Yes, in theory they are awarded by a jury of actual musicians and peers. But it’s still a political, elitist club that has taken so many terrible decisions, I’m not sure why anyone would care about them. Slap Posted July 7, 2023 Share Posted July 7, 2023 (edited) The GP is not important anymore to be successful as an artist and acclaim from the GP isn’t the flex stans think it is when you look at what the ‘GP’ in the US has been doing lately especially during the pandemic/Trump era. Stans who feel their taste aligning with the GP means they have ‘good’ taste are in denial about the fact they are actually basic. Taste is subjective and you should follow your own path towards the music you like regardless of what others think instead of chasing what other people/radio stations/algorithms tell you to listen to. Tastemakers don’t follow trends, they set them. Being a pick me girl/gay/person on a forum by thinking you’re edgy for making shady references to “forum/internet gays” and how their taste isn’t shared by the GP is nothing more than thinly veiled self hatred and projection and the GP probably hate you anyway. All of the music that is released these days by 20th century artists, including the LEGENDS, is mostly ignored by the general public and flops on the charts as per ATRL MPG standards. They literally entertain their fanbases for the rest of their lives. Artists can‘t succeed 50+ years with the public. The best have 15-20 successful years in mainstream, decline in GP support, than entertain just their fans with albums/merchandise/touring. And that is perfectly fine.
