I read yesterday's decision regarding affirmative action was brought forward by a college student who wasn't even from the US, he is from Canada :rip:

And it is all predicated on the idea that "uneducated, unqualified black people are given spots over more qualified, more educated non-black people" which is not even how Affirmative Action works. The Asian guy who brought the lawsuit just made it harder for himself and other minorities to get into college all because he bought into the racist idea that black people shouldn't be allowed in college.

I’m fearful for the precedent this sets but I’m not entirely against it, to be honest, at least in theory. If a business were to deny services to any other protected group of people, I would go out of my way to avoid using their services and advise others to do the same.

Do I agree that we as a community should take our dollars elsewhere? Yes, of course. But that is easy to say when I live in a big city and there are a number of places I can go to instead. That is not the case all across the country. The precedent this sets could very easily result in thousands, if not millions of LGBTQ people being shut out of their small town's businesses with nowhere else to turn.

There is only one way to fix SCOTUS, but I will not type the words out of fear of an investigation being opened up.

:biblio: We keep moving backwards.

American politics is beyond a joke right now, but couldn't this decision still be used/ applied against cis people as well?

Posted

Can this be used to discriminate against Christians if you are a gay business owner?

Posted

the usa is a ******* joke

Posted

this is wild, and on the last day of Pride month. :dies: what the hell is going on with that country? are you okay my American gay friends?

I’m just gonna say it. The Republican party shouldn’t be allowed to exist in America.

I thought this was already settled with that cake baker decision a few years back. I'm confused. What's different about this?

Shouldn't this be in Civics?

All this because ******* Trump was elected

I'm sorry, I've never been to those dark sides of atrl, I have no idea where this belongs. :dies:

Hi mod, please move this to the proper subforum..

Posted

that’s fine. i’ll start discriminating against christians. so now what?

Posted

If the Supreme court can't even stand against gay couples, I truly worry about how safe same sex marriage is.

Posted

This court is such a joke and anyone still supporting the Republican party doesn't care about improving the quality of life in this joke of a country, they only care about discriminating against anyone that doesn't look, sound or "believe" like they do

Posted

And lgbt business can also ban christians

That country is truly moving backwards.. shame. :dies:

Youth are more open than ever, Gen Alpha will probably be even more open minded than Gen Z

The generation that is religious is dying out, religion won’t be a thing in the west in the next 20 years

These old men are just fighting their last battle

We should start a "religion" where one of the core tenants is refusing service to bigots (or the Satanic Temple can add that to theirs). **** this court.

lol "the adults are already out so yolo" ????

u make it sound like u would go back in or not come out if you had the chance again....

this is the time to stand against those trying to take away our rights, not crumble back into the shadows where they want us.

also such a large part of the youth ARE more openminded and loving and liberal and educated and i highly doubt they will regress when these rulings are not reflective of how the majority actually thinks.

In spite of how shitty america has always been I was always happy that my grandma, a lesbian, was finally allowed to marry her wife.  Now that she’s in her mid 80s it sucks to see all this progress being taken away when so much had been made for her :weeps:
