I guess Time was different? Many scenes from TV series in the past can also feel very uncomfortable or sometime offensive if you watch it again now.

Christina is getting hate on this forum and elsewhere 24/7, she's not getting away with BREATHING so i don't get why people are pretending she's getting away with ANYTHING :toofunny3:

Exactly.

Anyway wearing fake tans back then brings the best result. Her skin is amazing and wrinkle free :heart2:

Did she get away, though?

She's like the odd one in high school that you feel too sorry to even pick on so you just left them alone.

Not you calling overtanning blackface, like the Stripped era was when she abused it. The cornrows, do-rags and dreads were all the rage during that time. Literally majority of pop stars rocked anything associated wit hip-hop, r&b and rap cultures in the late 90s, early 2000s. It was inescapable, because hiphop, alternative rock, grunge, hard rock, rap and drum & bass were in whilst pop and teen pop were out.

These things just were not controversial at the time. Cultural appropriation and other similar topics were not at all discussed in the mainstream. Same with Gwen and her Harajuku Girls

Christina always praised black culture and music by black artists. She never used it as a way to gain a fanbase like Ariana or Miley.

This. Plus she was even invited by BET to do a tribute to Whitney because Whitney requested it.

Anyways, this thread is dumb. X has never done blackface. She has always loved tanning, sometimes she went overboard with it. @ATRL Administration it's obvious this was intended as another Xtina drag thread.

They did. It was pretty obvious throughout but they did not mind. Remember this was the period when Asian music was being used by a lot of Western artists. The only controversy that came of this was when she performed on MTV and there was a Hindu group that thought it was "sacreligious". Just note the context here - the Hindu group had a case here because they felt their culture was being used inappropriately (they were not opposed to Madonna getting inspired by Hinduism or using it for visuals). Madonna replied:

"The essence of purity and divinity is non-judgment," Madonna said in the statement. "They should practice what they preach."

"Oh, they can kiss my ass. I’m not appropriating anything. I’m inspired and I’m referencing other cultures. That is my right as an artist."

How did they let Madonna get away with saying this? This is kind of ignorant?

Fake tan as a Latina does not equal blackface :rip: and cornrows aren’t cultural appropriation it’s a hairstyle

It simply was a different time, many slurs like the T-word for trans people were considered "acceptable" to say. So that's that on that.

latinx is not a race, it is a culture. she is one of the most aryan-looking people you will ever see, how is that tan OK? :rip: and when pop started gaining momentum again, she switched the look back to the blonde wig and pink highlighter. she is a white woman who tried to cater to black audiences and it didn't age well. just accept it, say "yeah whatever" and move on.

Because it’s a tan to look bronzed and more Spanish if anything, get over it, she has hardly painted herself black and claiming to be from Nigeria nnnnn

Latinos don't use Latinx first of all. So clearly you don't know what you're talking about. Go out and touch grass.

Christina was always known as a Latina. She was just going through a chola phase. Nobody thought she was trying to be black just a ghetto latina

a better question would be how pink (the original Miley wanna be black) blackfished and was trying to actually pass as mixed. Also even Britney tried to be ghetto and play on black culture but she broke her knee in the process

Right? ATRL pretending like the scrapped "Outrageous" music video never happened. :toofunny3:

Also, for OP to complain about something from 20+ years ago with a K-pop avi when they actually steal from black artists... the jokes just write themselves.
