Most female artists, including WOC to an extent but especially white women, were culturally appropriating other cultures in the 2000’s.  It was just the cool thing to do even if it was never appropriate.  Glad society has progressed away from this.

god you can't be this ignorant :skull:

From the responses to this thread, it looks like you're the one who's ignorant about Xtina Aguilera during Stripped.

LMFAO. Shes been heavily inspired by pop, rap and rnb her entire career. She was already doing trap-pop during 2014-2016 with Cashmere Cat, Diplo and other producers lmao. She did BALLADS with Tommy Brown on her early albums, nothing to do with hip hop or trap. And shes been a fan of hip hop since her debut. If anything, she pulled a modern Mariah. You're reaching for the stars. That trap sound was "IN" from 2016-2019, everyone and their mother was doing hip-hop and trap music. Even the pop girlies. Miss Swift even tried it with her album. Nice try.

Tea and no shade but many of them come from cultureless backgrounds. Like... they have to get inspired by SOMETHING and it obviously is gonna be from other cultures that are heavily rich in art. I think people need to understand that everything is inspired by everything. Like... we should be celebrating using each others ****. Toxic literally samples a BOLLYWOOD song and its one of the best pop songs of all time.

are we forgetting her excessive tanning during that era and the way her voice magically changed? her voice in 2019 and her voice now is completely different, not a coincidence

So Madonna with La Isla Bonita, Gaga with Alejandro, Geri with Mi Chico Latino, and Toni Braxton with Spanish Guitar...inappropriate or not?

Her voice now is COMPLETELY different and I agree, but this changed post positions. Everything pre-2020 and that album dropping was the same, nothing different. She had the exact same tanning during DW, Sweetner and tun. Nothing new. Everything change after she got married and positions (this I agree with). But from the start of her career to 2020, shes been the same.

Right. And theres a thousand examples of other artists who have done the same. What about hip-hop producers sampling Asian songs? Its nothing new. Everything is inspired by everything. Ray Of Light is literally half inspired by Hinduism, Madonna was out here wearing sari's and tattooing hindu symbols on her body and all sorts of **** lmao. Then she dumped all of that with American Life.

Some of y'all are being a bit TOO much. Yes, appropriation existed, but it wasn't a literal "I wanna be x race" situation.

I don't even know who that person is so I don't know how her hair looked like.

With a lot of people being so sensitive about aesthetics I thought I should bring up that possibility that maybe the view mistook it. I know how afro looks like vs curls.

I agree and that inspiration came out beautifully.

She didn't "dump" it. She moved on to her next idea like how she always does.

I'm not Black, Japanese, or Indian so I couldn't call her out, but she was wrong for using these culture to look "cool" at the time

I'm partly black and I can say this whole topic is dumb af.

Cultures have been influencing each others since the dawn of time and you could write down a 20 pages long essay of how "black culture" is heavily influenced by countless of others including europeans'. The hypocrisy is just too much.

Take Gwen Stefani...like, how can people be so blind not to see that the Harajuku style itself is 100% ripping off inspired by white european street fashion?

And how are people so triggered by Xtina's tan and hairstyle in this thread...and yet I have not seen anyone mention Eminem.

I can't tell the difference between Elvis Presley and Eminem. Both used black music and culture...and literally became one of the biggest selling artists of all time doing this and yet people are more bothered by Ariana's and Xtina's excessive tan?

Everything has been inspired by everything since forever. Literally. Its so tired. Nothing came from nothing. It came from each others influence.

À lot of yall acting obtuse in here. Most black people saw right through what she was doing but there are so much more important things to worry about that honestly I don’t think this was a priority and also  what’s the point in getting offended all her peers were doing it including Britney and those who came after her (Miley JB and Ariana ) did it too.

So should Madonna also apologize to India for Frozen or to Japan for Nothing really matters? Or Janet for Runaway?

It's for the Indian people to decide. And tbh idk if Indian people knew about pop stars using their culture for visuals or their reactions toward it

1. That's not blackface, just a horrible tan :deadbanana2:

2. I find it odd calling people out for doing cultural appropriation 20 years ago when society was different and that kind of stuff wasn't considered offensive

Is the OP that bored that they have to bring up things from 2003? :deadbanana2:

Real homos like me forgave her for her transgressions with the release of Bionic, the best album of all time.

We all know why she didn't back then

But now, she is pretty much getting hated on for those choices - constantly

We've all seen somewhat viral tweets and tiktoks

Miley used black audiences and music to gain new fans for Bangerz and then went to lily white country music after Dead Petz. Christina has always loved music by black artists.

Lets not

Miley being versatile in music doesn't mean she doesn't appreciate black audiences/music

She literally changes her image and sound, every era

How people still haven't learned that heavy spray tan was a trend in the early 00s? She wasn't the only one, there are literal articles about it.

when a popstar is new and trending people won't really call them out. Ariana did the same and got away with it.
