In general, her situation is weird. She for sure ought to be more active on social media, but at the same time, we were all screaming for her to do more of what Chloe was doing (e.g. be hyper-visible) and look how that panned out. Overexposed. If we're calling a spade a spade, Normani is somewhat limited in her offering. She is not the girl who should be covering songs on IG, she vocally she ain't that girl. Similarly, and I say this as someone who actually likes her, but her personality is not giving "for social media". She seems quite...vanilla. Which TBH is ok, because she brings the spice where it matters (videos, performances). I do think she could and should be serving looks on IG and pushing hard on the brand tip, if for no other reason than visibility. But at the same time, given her somewhat "limited" palette (no shade at all) and clear as day drama on the back-end, I actually think there's something slightly (and I mean slightly) smart about her less is more approach. Basically coming up for air when she's got something to show/promote. The challenge for her now is simply keeping that momentum and content flow going rather than disappearing. I want everyone to listen to you. also, a leaked song doesn’t mean much. we aren’t living in the mp3 era. the majority of people don’t even know how to find a file anymore. she’ll be fine. wishing Normani the best and hoping this time away has brought peace to her world where it matters most. Neither JoJo nor Tinashe were ever open and verbatim about the chaos of their situations WHILE in them. All their tea was spilt after they were freed. So, I've never really bought the "perfectionist" BS from Normani nor her "it's not anyone's fault (while clearly intimating that it IS indeed...someone's fault". A somewhat simple process of elimination makes it clear that it's the label. Management deals are generally much easier to dissolve than a label pact. She and S10/Brandon seem to be in the trenches together when it comes her situation, so the only other entities in the mix are RCA and Keep Cool (the latter of which essentially doesn't exist after its founder and Normani's mentor Tunji bounced to Def Jam exactly when Wild Side dropped). In general, she is in essence a new artist. As such, if RCA truly prioritized her and handed her a deadline that mandated that "single x has to be out by this date to facilitate your album coming out at this date" she is CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED to deliver on that. We really ought to not live in Disneyland where we believe that any new artist is truly in control on their ish. IMO, the perfectionist stuff (while possibly true to a degree) has a cap on how true it can possibly be. Normani is not a Bey or a Rih who calls the shots on their own career. As such, it's bewildering to me that people who know this (aka us forum stans) wilfully put that on the side to slam her. Edited June 15, 2023 by Cbreezy 1 2

Her father was diagnosed with cancer right after her mother and yet ya’ll are making asinine posts about her as if she’s just sitting twiddling her thumbs somewhere. I didn't read the interview since I saw the title. Also why are yall so angry when I was genuinely wondering why she wasn't active? Also I'm sorry to hear about her mother having cancer, I hope she recovers well and Normani can take a break to look after her. Edited June 15, 2023 by Gwendolyn

ALA Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 The no album thing is crazy it'll have been 2 years since Wilde Side I-
MaxMartin Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 the song sounds... very similar to the demo in a bad way? like the pots & pans are there , bad vocal mix...
wildsidenormani Posted June 15, 2023 Author Posted June 15, 2023 The think pieces in this thread...can we just be happy she's come out of hiding without thinking too much into it

So, there's nothing "edgy" or "funny" about dragging someone with potential who has the scope to be big if handled right. The song's leaked, yes. But her "launch pending" status means the average GP haven't heard it yet nor are they included to care-care like that. Smart play would be to add a sure-fire feature. I'm just glad that there's movement...seemingly.

Normani’s mother was diagnosed with cancer. Once in remission, her father was diagnosed immediately after. Speak life over people, you truly never know what someone is going through and not everyone is willing to miss out on not promised time with their family for the sake of releasing music. 3
Revel Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Candy Paint sounds like a major bop from the previews I heard. Come on Normani, release it now!

I fear it's too late now but I'll stay tuned for what's to come, regardless Her label did try. You must be joking. Dave Meyers directed music videos, collaborations with Ariana Grande, Cardi B, and other A-list artists, film soundtracks, VMA performances, opening for Ariana Grande, Max Martin studio sessions, brand deals, TV show roles, music video cameos, and numerous co-signs from big players in the industry…without an album. She was more connected than any “new artist” in decades. 4
Gyal Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 free the bop normani damn, the second verse eats so bad
Stellar1103 Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 I'll remain hopeful for a album release. I give her one thing...mama stay getting brand deals.
rigo Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 (edited) Honestly not even a pre add Spotify thing will do it for me, she needs to drop it fully Edited June 15, 2023 by rigo

She was more connected than any “new artist” in decades. I'm so critical of her, but it's crazy how some of these hot-takes here have me going to bat for her way more than I'd have thought. IMO, some of what you wrote is true (though a lot of falls into the remit of management which isn't the issue here)...but even then, a lot of the label bits fall into the remit of irresponsible tbh. I've BEEN saying: why go all out with a Dave Meyers video if you then don't have the budget to actually push the song post-release? In today's age, any team that knows what it's doing, will apportion that level of spend towards playlisting, payola, and performances over a video. If WE as stans know that YT views don't carry as much weight as Spotify/Apple streams, then every label knows this in depth too. Even if the artist is pushing for it, the label is in the driving seat and are meant to be both the experts and the authority (see: artist being contractually obligated). Let's also do away with this notion of Normani not working despite "everything being done" to facilitate her winning. To date, she still has a worryingly small list of televised performances to her name, and her collabs are few and far between (despite being at one of the biggest labels in the world and having so many acts on the roster that could be used to cross-promote). She also still has to campaign for award show slots that her like-levelled peers get with no issue. She's not perfect and has a definite hand in her current predicament, but context is...key. 1
mxoonlight Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Not her actually doing promo? Very gagged. Her fans are troopers.
