They hate anything sung by a male of any genre. Plain and simple. @Insanity is one of the members who is an exception, as well as members who don't frequent this section like @JGibson and @Brandon

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with country singers and rappers potentially being homophobic (and other things). But most rock groups I listen to are progressive and I mainly lean pop punk when I don't listen to pop (Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, The Summer Set, Tonight Alive, Paramore, Hey Monday, etc) so I think it again goes back to the whole "hate on anything male" thing.

The thing is, they hate on you if you hate anything sung by a female unless it's a woman that gets bullied on here like Camila, Ava, Demi, Meghan, Rachel Platten, etc.

The older I get, the less of a **** I give. I listen to what makes me happy and not everything I love is sung by a female. It's toxic to not have variety in what you listen to. If I'm in the mood for 7 Rings or Anti-Hero, I go for that. If I'm in the mood for Misery Business or I'd Do Anything or The Anthem, then I go for that. Plain and simple.

I feel like rock gets more positive reception on here than country even if it feels like it isn’t popular

They like it when their faves do a rock-inspired track though. Paramore, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Maneskin, and the likes don’t really get bashed when they release of had their moments.

I think if Rock can ever get competitive for the Top 20 at least the hate would grow. But when the Foo Fighters didn't place a new track on Hard Rock Digital & Streaming Charts its clear fans are behind the times. The overwhelming majority of songs on HR Digital & almost entirely HR Streaming are decades old. So we've got to get caught up.

Damn, congrats to Morgan I guess

The “I’m not like other ATRLers” discussion going on in here :rip:

The Fast Car cover isn't actively bad, it's just... pointless :rip: Like it adds nothing to the original song. But hey, at least Tracy's earning some coins!

The Fast Car cover isn’t groundbreaking in any way, but I do appreciate that he kept it true to the original as far as the pronouns in the song go; all he added was some more ‘country’ instrumentation, which is expected, and it’s by no means a bad cover. I ‘like’ it but don’t ‘love’ it—but it’s exponentially better than the current number one, so I really hope it can overtake it.

Interesting. I'm watching Combs talk about the Fast Car cover right now. He can't make a video for his FC b/c Chapman owns all rights to the song. That's why he has an audio clip but not lyric or official video. Cut to 33:00 for talk about FC & 36:55 for his discussion.

OK I'll share the BB Hot 100 Top 5 for the weeks Fast Car sat at its #6 peak. FC fell to #7 between its 2 peak weeks.

27 Aug 88: #6 Fast Car--Tracy Chapman, #5 Simply Irresistible--Robert Palmer, #4 Sweet Child Of Mine--Guns & Roses, #3 I Don't Want To Live Without Your Love--Chicago, #2 I Don't Want To Go On With You Like That--Elton John & #1 Monkey--George Michael.

03 Sep 88: #7 Fast Car--Tracy Chapman, #6 Perfect World--Huey Lewis & The News, #5 I Don't Want To Live Without Your Love--Chicago, #4 I Don't Want To Go On With You Like That--Elton John, #3 Simply Irresistible--Robert Palmer, #2 Sweet Child Of Mine--Guns & Roses, #1 Monkey--George Michael.

10 Sep 88: #6 Fast Car--Tracy Chapman, #5 When Its Love--Van Halen, #4 Monkey--George Michael, #3 Perfect World--Huey Lewis & The News, #2 Simply Irresistible--Robert Palmer, #1 Sweet Child Of Mine--Guns & Roses.

So, particularly with Sweet Child Of Mine, Fast Car faced tough competition on the H100. But Tracy Chapman's self-titled debut, FCs parent album, did reach #1 1 week on the BB 200. Also, Michael & John would go on to become very important LGBTQAIH+ community spokespeople, so Chapman also had company there too.

I’m most amazed that Chicago followed up this Top 3 hit with a #1 hit (Look Away) later that year. That was 18 years after their first string of Top 10 hits (Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is, 25 or 6 to 4, and Make Me Smile).

That would be like if Ice Spice scored a Top 3 hit and then followed that up with a #1 in late 2041.
