Guys, slightly off topic, but pls help!

I live in London, during the pandemic I was shocked by Trump and its supidity and so I became addicted to American politics, I watch it on a daily basis and many times I prefer it to Netflix if I’m alone (Drag Race always has priority 😀)

I think I watched it in the hope that ‘thr good forces’ will eventually win but American politicians are so f’ed up that I refuse to give one more minute to those horrible Republicans ( Jordan, McCarthy, Greene, Graham, DeSantis and .. I can’t even spell her name Bo… Boe…. Ewwwww!)

I think the Trump arrest I will always watch with maximum interest, but for the rest, pls help with some advice, I don’t want to waste another moment with those others :bam:

That happened to me back in 2018. Fortunately, I was able to move past it because engaging in American politics can be extremely toxic, so praying for your mental health

OT: Today is going to be a **** show :giraffe:

https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jun/13/trump-finds-no-new-lawyers-mar-a-lago-documents-arraignment

Donald Trump is expected to be represented at his first court appearance to face federal criminal charges for retaining national security materials and obstruction of justice by two of his existing lawyers, after struggling to recruit a local Florida lawyer willing to join his legal defense team.

The lawyers making an appearance with Trump on Tuesday will be the top former federal prosecutor Todd Blanche and the former Florida solicitor general Chris Kise, according to people familiar with the matter. Trump’s co-defendant, his valet Walt Nauta, will be represented by Stanley Woodward.

Trump and his legal team spent the afternoon before his arraignment interviewing potential lawyers but the interviews did not result in any joining the team in time for Trump’s initial court appearance scheduled for 3pm ET on Tuesday after several attorneys declined to take him as a client.

Trump has also seemingly been unable to find a specialist national security lawyer, eligible to possess a security clearance, to help him navigate the Espionage Act charges.

@BeenTheShit :coffee2: Axios on Trump's legal delay strategies

https://www.axios.com/2023/06/13/trumps-strategy-defuse-court-rocket-docket?utm_campaign=editorial&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter

Southern Florida's federal courts are known as a "rocket docket" for their speedy trials, but former President Trump's legal team is likely to unleash a flurry of motions and challenges to delay his criminal trial there, former Trump lawyers say.

Why it matters: The moves could push the trial back, a few months at a time, as Trump's team challenges how prosecutors gathered evidence in the classified documents case, former Trump lawyer Tim Parlatore tells Axios.

  • “I wouldn't foresee this thing getting tried within a year,” said Parlatore, who left Trump’s legal team last month.
  • And after a trial, the appeals will go all the way to the top, he predicts. “If there's ever a case that you know from the inception that it's going to go all the way to the Supreme Court this is it."
  • "I can foresee some fairly substantive motions to dismiss" the case, Parlatore added. "I could also see them going through several discovery motions, and there will be fights over disclosure. I think each round of motions is going to take three months."
  • Discovery allows lawyers to go through evidence from both sides, and sometimes there are disputes about which documents each side must disclose. The process can significantly lengthen a trial if there are voluminous records.

State of play: Trump's team has many incentives to try to slow-walk the trial, in which he faces 37 felony counts — including 31 charges of unauthorized retention of classified information about the nation's defense, a violation under the Espionage Act. He's due to be arraigned today in a Miami court.

  • If convicted, Trump, 76, could spend the rest of his life in prison.
  • Trump is now the leading GOP candidate for president. If he were to win the presidency in November 2024, he could have a chance to install sympathetic Justice Department officials before the trial is completed — or try to pardon himself if he's convicted.

Zoom in: Trump and lawyers who recently departed his team have suggested some of the issues the defense is likely to challenge.

Search warrant:

  • Parlatore tells Axios he believes Trump's team may challenge the process in which prosecutors obtained a search warrant for Mar-a-Lago last year. “The unredacted version of the search warrant application, I think that will cause some issues,” he said.

Attorney-client privilege:

  • Many of the damaging details in the indictment were from notes that Trump lawyer Evan Corcoran took at the time. Those notes were obtained through the crime-fraud exception that allows prosecutors to pierce attorney-client privilege. A federal judge ruled in March that the government had met that standard, but Trump’s team could contest that decision.
  • Trump has fixated on the issue for monthstelling Newsmax in March: “They bring attorneys in as though they’re, you know, witnesses to a case. It wasn’t supposed to be that way.”

Prosecutorial misconduct:

Zoom out: Trump's campaign declined to comment on his legal strategy but pointed Axios to Trump's past allegations of misconduct by prosecutors and his complaints about the attorney-client privilege issue.

  • On Friday, special counsel Jack Smith appeared to address some of those arguments, saying his prosecutors “have investigated this case hewing to the highest ethical standards.”
  • Smith also signaled that prosecutors will try to blunt any attempt by Trump's team to delay the proceedings: “My office will seek a speedy trial."

What we're watching: Trump is bringing in new lawyers who could shift his strategy.

@Espresso Nice information.  I'm not at all surprised he's having trouble finding lawyers for this case, nor am I surprised at the other ones jumping ship when the indictment was released.  At this point, I still can't believe anyone is still stupid enough to go anywhere near Trump, let alone work for him. :gaycat6:

I also agree we will probably see a lot of slow walking and delay tactics, especially with Aileen Cannon overseeing. :biblio:

I'll be at work during the court appearance so I won't be able to post updates until later this evening. :weeps:

could you imagine the backlash and utter chaos if he was convicted, beat Biden, and then pardoned himself?

At this point, almost any Republican being elected as president could mean a pardon. :gaycat6:

Trump winning would be insane though.  I wonder if that would hold up? :deadbanana4:

Almost every one that works with Trump gets burned. Just look at his administration. He ****** over everyone from Pence to DeVos.
The only people that are going to be in his administration in 2024 will be crazies like MTG and Kari Lake. No normal person is going to want to work with him. His VP is going to pray everyday that Trump is forced out of office

I am still naively optimistic that America will not elect an indicted criminal that led a insurrection, but you never know

If I understood the situation correctly, almost every lawyer isn't going to want to represent Trump because they'd certainly be suborning perjury. In those instances, they'll very likely lose their license to practice law. The orange buffoon just can't keep his trap shut and it's coming back to bite him in the ass. :toofunny2:

The t-shirts are probably sold by the cult that originally started them. Their headquarters is still in Miami I believe. :coffee2:

So they're still operating there then despite his death, interesting.

Extremely relevant given Spiro Agnew (Nixon VP) as precedent for what DOJ decides, regardless of what one thinks of Rachel separately.

Lot to unpack here but I personally would recommend watching the clip.

Cannon will slow-walk the case so that it doesn’t conclude until after the election. If Trump wins, the case will be dismissed because DOJ can’t/won’t prosecute sitting presidents, and they’re not going to suddenly speed up the ordeal during the lame duck period.

Nikki Haley is out there saying that if she gets the nomination and wins she’ll pardon Trump.

Every Republican running except Christie and Hutchinson has said that. Blows my mind! :rip:

She's done two 180's in the span of a week and half. The shamelessness is really breathtaking.

It's their way of saying "step out of the way, because WE can win, not you. And we'll take care of your problems for you."

It's all for an audience of one.

He stood in front of a judge, pled not guilty on very serious charges and the judge only told him to not talk to potential witnesses… that’s it? Insane! Now he’s running around Miami restaurants making campaign videos. I’m speechless.

Restaurants as in plural? I thought he just prayed at one Cuban restaurant.
