But why are they focusing so much on the US though? The song will be out of the charts by the time she starts promoting it here in the UK.

That being said, I do think Mixers can be a bit more aggressive on the sales and social media side as they barely made a dent on Amazon last week for example, and there should already be 5k+ TikTok's and numerous viral tweets with whatever narratives needed to get people to tune in. Everyone just seems focused on reposting her looks, which whilst incredible, aren't really a defining difference amongst pop girls in 2023 unless she does something drastic.

Now THIS is where I think her "not being the main girl in Little Mix" may become a slight issue.

Leigh-Anne "as part of Little Mix" gets the full weight of support from the stans, who have bought into the group's overall everything (member combo, sound, songs).

As a separate entity, who (let's face it) isn't representative of most of the group's fanbase by way of her race and cultural background (a point of difference she's turning the volume up on), it becomes a case of how "relatable" she is to even those who "like her" from LM.

For as much goodwill as there is, IMO that "disconnect" with some of the group's largely Caucasian fanbase is why we're seeing slightly less enthusiasm. IMO it's the difference between her being #8 or #9 and the #11 he ended up at.

By contrast, I really see Perrie benefitting from the full weight of the fans' support. Not just because of how vocally integral she was to LM, but the fact she is the member they most identify with and for some aspire to.

In Leigh not having the muscle of complete LM fanbase, I maintain she needs to be somewhat shameless in her use of features to effectively "make up the difference" while she builds up her solo stock.

I think you're jumping the gun a bit. Leigh-Anne attending the BET Awards and holding a release party in LA doesn't mean that TAP are putting their effort into the US and not working on establishing her in the UK and Europe.

Realistically, there isn't much more they can do in the UK at this current moment in time. They've had her at almost every radio station during release week. Shows like Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross aren't currently on air, and performing on The One Show would have absolutely no impact on the single at all. The reality is, it's still very early and it's going to take time.

But they might as well try. Maybe they will, but I am purely judging by what I see.

Even though relatively unknown, a song pulling 180k WW daily 10 days after debut isn’t exactly that good.

Why hasn’t there been a single radio add date in Europe yet? It’s something most labels do (see Ava Max), the song is not going to be played on its own.

While I disagree with somebody in earlier pages saying she isn’t putting in work, there is no denial the results so far have been subpar.

The UK promo run has been good and it’s probably going to serve its purpose in terms of airplay, but she needs different stuff to get people talking … we’ll see.

I’m sure they are going to try but the song literally came out less than two weeks ago, so we need to reign in our expectations a bit. Little Mix aren’t that well-known to the GP outside of the UK, so they are essentially starting from scratch, at least internationally. So just because they haven’t pushed in Europe yet doesn’t mean they don’t have long-term plans and realistic expectations for what will happen in the short-term. Look at how TAP managed Dua’s rise. Slow and steady, tactical, and nothing was done quickly or within a matter of weeks.

It's easier for her as a soloist to do somewhat well in the US vs part of the group. I still think it'll be difficult, but she could definitely have a crossover moment. Probably not with this song since it has a very UK sound to it, but with a future release.

I hope the song has legs cause I like it so much!

Am I the only one not really feeling the acapella?

#42 on Apple Music in the UK :rip: Her team is failing already.

Posted

Yeah I’m not sure there’s much hope for this to recover. Do they stick with this for a few more weeks? Or rush release the second single earlier than planned? Not sure what the strategy is

Posted

Obviously I don’t mean “should they release the second single next week?” Kind of rush release… but I mean, do they bump it up earlier? Like.. end of July, early August? I don’t know

I know it's ATRL but surely we can still look at some positives :deadbanana4:

At least it's not a Dinah/Ally/Lauren level bomb

Once her team are able to develop a story that really attracts people to her then she's set - she's got all the other tools needed to smash. Her last couple years have been focusing on her children and marriage but now she's back in the game they'll be able to cook something up PR-wise.

Oh yeah, I mean career wise it isn’t the end of the world for her. Another user pointed out that plenty of ex group members had multiple “false starts” before they found tangible commercial success. But if the song is showing no sign of life, is it worth putting the effort in to this particular song? Or do they let it just run it’s course and then try again with the next single?

I think they need to focus on creating a narrative. Social media needs a story to run with, the music comes second. Taylor, Ariana, Olivia, Justin, The Weeknd and even artists in other genres (SZA, Drake, Gunna, Lil Baby, Morgan) all have aggressive PR campaigns and stories that drum up GP interest and fuel fans. Right now she's a spotless pop princess which isn't enough atm with the attention span and amount of artists people have today

To your question, I think hope isn't lost for the UK. Definitely not worth stressing the US tho imo apart from getting her name out there

Featured on Love Island. Now we need her to perform later in the season for the Becky Hill/Mabel level iTunes boost

Slightly off topic but she’s featured on a song called Running Away, a track on Jon Batiste’s upcoming album due out on 18th August

Hate to say it and you'll all drag me for mentioning it but people dragged Jesy's Boys chart performance and well our hope for a stable hit with this for Leigh is looking slim..

Literally my thoughts. People not dare call that song a flop after this.

Boyz is still a great song despite the bandwagon hate because of the video.

DSL is also a great song and she has so much good will and seemingly had so many LM fans on board but it’s not doing better? I’m so shocked. It deserves to do well.

"Don't say "love" if that's not what you're chasin'
Empty lies, empty words, entertainment
Don't say "love" just because you can say it
I need, I need, I need, I just need somethin' that's real

Give me somethin' I can hold on to, boy
Give me somethin' I can hold forever, for life
If it's not you, gotta watch me leave, boy..."
