Leigh-Anne - “Don’t Say Love”

Tbh, I think she has a weak art direction. There's no solid concept of her era. It's a pop track and nothing more.

Also can we not pretend that Confetti’s singles run prior to SM / Jesy’s departure were amazing? BUS and Holiday both struggled at first but maintained a decent chart run.

Leigh as 1/3 of the band and #11 is good going, she will drop substantially yes but hopefully we can secure a decent chart run to allow further singles and the album to follow.

Exactly, I think 11 is good!

She'll have a successful solo career, I have no doubt about it!

That’s the thing. After 11 years in a pop group, I was hoping she would come through with something unique to her and separates her from the rest.

Really disappointing that even with the amount of hype generated and what seemed to be such a promising rollout they almost just seemed to forget about playlisting and promotion on streaming? Playlisting numbers were similar to Love (Sweet Love) & No from Little Mix, which flopped on streaming. Would’ve thought they’d have learned their lesson lol

Source for the radio stats for those who are interested or do not believe/realise that BBC R2 is the biggest station in the country (by quite a comfortable distance)

Biggest audience reach, highest average hours listened to per head, comfortably the most hours listened to and highest % share of listeners.

Being A-list on BBC R2 is a very big deal

Just wanted to share the above, because I think a lot of people naively assume either BBC R1 or Capital are the biggest radio stations in the UK and that certainly isn’t the case!

#11 Love Me Like You

#11 Hair

#11 Don't Say Love

All classics :clap3: First artist to go #1 twice in a group and #1 twice solo

Obviously we all want the song to be successful but let’s not lose sight of the bigger picture; she’s trying to establish herself and build a following, it might take a little longer. Longevity is key, finding her niche is key to a successful career. I have faith in her vision and her label that they’ll support her and get her to the place she deserves to be.

Right? Post singles already being planned is promising for a girl group solo. I think people forgot the rocky road Camila took post-Bad Things in the lead up to Havana and the amount of stop-starts despite having the full backing of her label (see also: Dua pre-New Rules). It takes a lot of work to launch an artist and with Leigh's drive and involvement I have no doubt it'll work out incredibly in her favour. She's hands on, owns her masters (? going off of the credits) and already has experience.

Leigh is at an event in LA for her single tomorrow!

#11 debut is good. People don’t know who Leigh-Anne is, so I mean …

Fact is she needs to perform it. And I don’t really get why they aren’t taking a shot at Europe (easier target). This won’t do nothing in the US.

Radio 1 and Capital are not the biggest in audience, but their public is the most receptive to then purchase or stream the song by far.

We barely know anything about the era itself for now.

However, regarding the song, the concept of the release is shedding the layers of being in LM and be reborn as solo artist. The song is partially about being ignored and feeling invisible (both in a relationship AND when she was in Little Mix, something we know by now after the documentary), the music video's concept is rebirth (as a solo act) and the cover is an homage to The Emancipation of Mimi... meaning liberation and independence.

I can buy in to streaming as R1/Capital typically appeals to a younger demographic, but I would have assumed R2 audiences are much more likely to purchase physical copies or download? Be interested to know if there’s any stats on this

I wonder if she's planning on performing her single anytime soon? I thought by now we'd have at least one performance of the single

Probably they are waiting a couple of weeks to build some radio airplay

I gave the song a listen n really wanted to like but imo it sounds faceless n says nothing about Leigh for a debut single. I feel a mismatch between the lyrics n beat to the point it feels like those dj remixes over a ballad. I heard she was recording in Jamaica. I hope she brings some West indies/ Island vibes to her follow-up singles. She’s the blackest LM. She can edge out her former bandmates with the swagger only she can pull off. Still rooting for her.

I hope she continues to promote n put herself out there. A slow burn is a blessing. She’ll raise her solo profile and win ppl over. Everyone loves to root for an underdog. Its better than debuting huge n then collapsing. This way she’s organically building her solo fanbase.

I know you guys hate DJ collabs but the radios and streaming eat them up here, it’s a great way for any of the LM girls to get their names out there and might be why they explored DJ collabs towards the end of their time together.

Becky Hill has made a name for herself as a dance & club artist by doing only DJ collabs and has won two brits now - sadly comes at a cost though, whilst she can do the festival route she’d probably never be able to tour independently successfully.

I really thought this would be better. I wish her all the best, though.

This is what I think Jade and Pez should do. There is a risk into becoming Becky-like, being a DJ hook girl, but to be fair it’s a good recipe for stats.

Currently down to #36 on Apple Music, suffering slightly from NMF and general weekend effect, so don’t be surprised if it drops out of Spotify again. It might take a little longer to rebound, but being C List on BBC R1 and A List on BBC R2 should help it out a little this week.

It’s currently #22 on Shazam which is an encouraging sign, I’d imagine this will rise as more people hear it on the radio.

She’s looking at quite a hefty drop on the Official Charts this week, as she was heavily carried by physicals during its first week. I imagine that she’s probably very likely to fall out of the Top 20 altogether and may even end up closer to the #30 - #40 mark, so please brace yourselves for that ddd. It all depends on streams. I’m not really a chart expert so not really sure where her current average streams would land her without the physicals, so open to being corrected if I’m over or underestimating the 2nd week drop.

All is not lost though, streaming can catch up as airplay increases and I think she could easily score a solid multi-week chart run in the Top 20. Let’s give it a few more weeks and see how Spotify responds.

A slow build is not necessarily a bad thing, we just have to be patient. I’m very excited to see how the rest of the era progresses.

the Spotify numbers are awful despite being on Hot Hits UK. :biblio:

I'm kinda shocked cause this sounds like UK candy also the girls have always been very popular there. I thought the Jesy fiasco made people side even more with the other three.

I'm certain Jade will have multiple DJ collabs and they will do well.

I agree, the girls doing a couple DJ collabs would help. Jesy desperately needs one so she can actually chart, but she turned down Jax Jones in 2021 as she wanted to stay R&B.

I'm just thinking are there any big UK shows she can perform on soon??

I can't really think of any as the likes of Jonathan Ross/Graham Norton aren't airing at the moment are they?

Even a BBC Live Lounge would be great!

Becky is touring arenas in the UK next year so it is still possible to have big successful independent tours while being known for DJ collabs & festivals
