it's probably gonna end up bigger than both

Morgan Wallen coming for Song of the Summer, I’m afraid. Nothing seems to be strong enough. Drake and Ed Sheeran flopping when they have greater GP appeal than the average pop girl should have everyone here worried.

Genuinely the next chance to dethrone Morgan might be something like “Sparks Fly (Taylor’s Version)” in July at this rate.

It has spent 10 weeks at #1 on Streaming Songs and it's still doing over 30 million streams weekly.

It's really massive at least in the US

Most Weeks at No. 1 on Radio Songs:

  • 26, “Blinding Lights,” The Weeknd, 2020
  • 18, “Iris,” Goo Goo Dolls, 1998
  • 16, “Girls Like You,” Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B, 2018
  • 16, “We Belong Together,” Mariah Carey, 2005
  • 16, “Don’t Speak,” No Doubt, 1996-97
  • 15, “Flowers,” Miley Cyrus, 2023

Only on the Billboard Hot 100 can you have an iconic song like Don't Speak never chart, while forgettable songs like Life Goes On, Trollz, and Like Crazy go to #1.

In the US? Yes absolutely. Arguably the biggest hit here since As It Was I guess.

Globally… well, no

The worst song on that list, dark times we used to be in 2018 being spammed to death with that horrid track.

The landscapes were very different. Back then, a song had to have physical CDs printed for sale in order to even be eligible, while in the streaming era, anything goes. Plenty of other radio-only songs met the same fate. The charts were gamed back then as well, with CD releases timed to coincide with radio peaks, allowing for higher debuts and manipulated peaks that might not have played out the same if the single had been able to chart as normally the entirety of its run.

It's a cycle...minus Taylor who defies the norm most artists hit a peak.

It's clear Taylor is OWNING the Artist of the decade title and the top male artist of the decade will be between Drake and the Weeknd.

2010s Drake was AOTD and Taylor female AOTY

2020s Taylor will be AOTD and likely Drake will be male AOTY.

Morgan will maintain the summit until a summer smash comes out which can happen anytime in June so I'm not worried tbh

That's not billboard's fault.

No Doubt's label preferred people to purchase the album so a CD single wasn't released.

It was either a diamond certified album or a #1 hit for a song that is so iconic it doesn't even need a chart peak.

I'd take the diamond certified album considering how now songs are no longer hits based on peaks just #-- peaking songs. Longevity and the hit factor is now determined by certifications which consists of double counting singles as albums and singles.

Scary times...

It SHOULD be Ella Baila Sola… but we all know the reason why that song has plateaued. Radio being xenophobic to international smashes that aren’t in English is a trope that has extended at least as far back as Asereje :katie:

In some cases labels would issue a 12" vinyl to count as a single or do extremely limited shipments, even 50-100k singles total. 12" qualified for Hot 100 placement. So CD/Cassette singles weren't needed to chart. Don't Speak could've gotten 1 #1 wk if just 250k was shipped. Even though it would've been sold thru in 10 days DS would've spent months on the chart based on airplay points alone. And The 250k wouldnt have cannibalized Tragic Kingdoms sales at all. NDs label was being stubborn & cost its act a #1 song due to greed & an attitude problem. Don't blame BB here, blame NDs label. Also, NDs label released Dont Speak singles everywhere else & these were imported for US sales. But BB didn't count imported singles toward the Hot 100. So NDs label couldve easily done it here but didnt.

Its strange that Die For You sneaked back above Anti-Hero this week. Given DFYs decline at radio & poorer metrics I don't see that happening again.

Has Trustfall still not reached the H100? Its got a lot of radio support. Truth be told I like Pink, though I probably fall short of a Stan.

It might have tragic streams, the song however charted already at #94 during album release week.
