not really. it seems like people are just excited about a new face but she hasnt proved to be versatile yet and all her verses are basically the same. i love her music though, i just don't think she's all that, at least not yet

Essentially. She’s carved out a unique lane, a distinct image & is marketing herself exceptionally well to a younger generation. She’s relatable, well spoken, cool in her demeanour, has an underdog vibe you want to root for, doesn’t try too hard, a bisexual icon, has introduced new lingo & “isms” that resonate with the culture, & stays true to herself, regardless of how online critics feel about it. Her authenticity just clicks.

Her fanbase are also essentially Barbz, and she’s been wise to understand what labels like Atlantic didn’t. Nicki has the majority market share of female rap fans, that’s just the reality & it’s evident in the career outcomes & longevity (or lack thereof) of those who alienated that majority.

She’s writing her own material & reaching incredible heights on the back of an EP at the moment. She has so much room to grow & the banger hooks & choruses that will no doubt be thrown her way soon, will only catapult her further.

Barbz have proven that they can only put capital towards their fave on the debut week. Nicki has even stated that she doesn't like female rappers trying to use "her fans".

Ice Spice has nothing on her own but features and tik tok memes so far. And she's not nearly as interesting and "chill" as fans have stated.

Lbr her 15min of fame are already fading. We won't hear about her next year which is sad cuz I enjoy her a lot

She is very cute and likable but I do see her fizzling out and being looked at as a fad, unfortunately. That is, unless she really works on her delivery and becomes a more serious rapper. I think "Boy's a Liar" was a lightning in a bottle moment for her.

she has a very distinct and memorable image but imo she kinda sounds like a boring version of Cardi when she raps :chick3:

Good lord I don’t like being a hater, but she’s unbearable. She sounds like she is reading off a paper. I can’t wait for her to fade, sorry!

She's just a Tiktok meme, will be forgotten in 2 years

No, she’s talentless…

I mean, that’s all perspective.

Ice owns her publishing & gets a bigger cut of her own work. Her music has taken off without the need to sign predatory contracts, nor a quick label “pump n dump” deal that’ll have her broke & in debt to a white CEO for the majority of her career peak. Her videos aren’t high budget or exorbitantly flashy either. What she’s pulling with her small team is going straight to her pockets.

You can guarantee she made more off that Princess Diana “debut week” alone, than any of her peers have off their Grammy wins or payola #1s, if we’re talking music, & she’s even catching up to them with more lucrative brand deals & fashion co-signs. The Barbz may only be good for a “debut week” as you say, but brand loyalty & consistency trumps all, ultimately. And it’s that same consistency that’s allowed Nicki to be the only female rapper to tour the world 3 times & remain as relevant as she is 15 years in. It’s unprecedented & Ice is following that print successfully, thus far. A top 5 debut week is also nothing to scoff at in the female rap genre.

To say Ice has nothing but TikToks and memes at this stage, is just wilful ignorance or a misguided judgement based on nothing but social media & chart optics, that I guess are fun for a stan war, but ultimately hold little weight to the individual artist in terms of compensation & public sentiment irl. She hasn’t even released her debut album yet.

Such as the one talentless succesful rap girl? She's making a lot of noise, but I don't see it for her. Sure it worked for Cardi, but this Ice Spice is just meme in a very bad way.

Don't understand the appeal at all but then again I'm at "Unc" age now so maybe it's just not for me

I think she is in a tricky area where things are being handed to word and she hasn't proved herself to be a SOLO hit maker, if that makes sense. Of course, The Barbs are going to buy and stream the Princess Diana remix. Of course, Taylor's fans are going to buy and stream the Karma Remix, is Ice able to drop a song tomorrow on her own and have people successfully buy it and stream? She seems like a sweet girl though and it's going to be interesting to see how her career goes.

no she will be forgotten in like 1 year

Voted not yet but she's better than some other rap girls for sure

Yes she's here and she's up next. Everything that you all are saying are the the very same things that were said about Cardi. What you all aren't seeing is the branding and networking that's at play. She's got a look, lingo, and sound already established. She's making serious moves and the people are clicking with it. This is literally a perfect combination of Nicki's and Cardi's come up. You can say she's a talentless plant all you want but that's not changing the fact that its working.

On top of that, let's not pretend that Cardi isn't completely stagnant right now and has been in decline since Up. She's been around for 6 years, her prime as a mainstream artist is almost over. When Nicki was at this point in her career, the hate train was right around the corner. The GP, the music climate, and music industry are ready for some new blood and Ice Spice is clearly the one they want.

depends what'll happen when the main rap girls come back and we don't need to depend on her for female rap hits. She's definitely filling the gap of Doja, Megan, Nicki, Cardi, Saweetie, City Girls etc. all being MIA at the moment.

Also when comparing her to the rest of the main rap girls, she is quite literally nowhere near any of the main 4 despite her newfound success and heavy online presence. There's a lot she has to prove and a long way to go!

You're right about the solo thing but give her a chance. She's building that buzz because she's aiming for the big leagues. She's definitely a big draw for these songs. She made Boys a liar a hit, that Pinkpanthress chick is NOT going anywhere after it dies down. Yes the Barbs carried Princess Diana, it looks GREAT on Ice's resume. This Taylor song will be another big cosign and the exposure from Taylor's audience is huge on it's own. Now add the controversy surrounding it where she's at the center of it and has no wrong doing in it.... That is publicity GOLD. They know exactly what they are doing and it shows you why she's the one to watch.

Ice spice is bringing branding, marketing, and strategy. She's in her Beam me up Scotty come up era right now. When her debut comes out, it's going to be one hell of an era.

This. Plus she’s young, isn’t enshrouded in personal drama, bogged down by label issues, or popping out babies any time soon. She’s in the best position to cultivate an audience that grows with her & maintains momentum. Based on how strategically she’s choosing to move, she’s playing her cards right.

Branding is just as important as good music

You can't have only one, so she's not in a good position longterm for a music career :swan: She better come harder cuz it ain't it currently

Cardi's pre-IOP music is ass and yet we saw how things can turn out. She has one six song EP and a couple features, you're completely underestimating her right now

I wouldn't compare Cardi's pre IOP era to Ice Spice.

Everyone knows Munch by Ice Spice, they just chose to not stream it. It was just a meme
