Is it cruel to have house cats?

Lmao stop shaming people. My cat has a really ******* good life. He’s an indoor cat because he is scared of cars and will get lost and die. He doesn’t have those hunting instincts because I make him homemade healthy food every day. He has a better diet than I have, and I play with him twice a day to get his zoomies out. Not that I have to explain myself to anyone, but more humans are staying inside working remotely or just on their stupid phones. Access to a yard is getting more and more scarce. It’s very logical. Just takes some thinking.

Yeah, you can’t transition an outdoor cat into an indoor cat, they will get depressed.

I also don’t think that many/most cats don’t like to go outside as some in here claim. They simply weren’t raised that way so they’re afraid, but they wouldn’t be if you’d let them play in the garden and that sort of stuff when they were kittens.

yeah I think sadly because she had so much free range as a kitten when the law changed to have cats inside at all times, it was hard to teach her to stay indoor, so next time I ever get a cat again I want to raise it super young to just stay indoors.

It's pretty common violence against animals here in my area, especially with cats.

It's pretty common find cats killed by poison or beat or by piercing objects. And I'm not even talking about the dangers metioned before in the thread

So it's a big NO for my ladies to go outside without supervision

Some cats, like mine, are horrified to go outside even when you try.

so no

!!! This

it’s better than the alternative + cats get attached to places anyways so they adapt to living in a house

All cats should be kept indoors. They are predators and kill local wildlife for sport. People that let their cats roam are bad pet owners.

It’s better for the environment and your cat to keep them indoors or at least supervised outdoors (get a catio or a window box if you want to give them fresh air&sunshine ). Recent trends provide thousands of ways to enrich your cats indoor life, it’s a growing trend for people to have a whole room/space dedicated to enriching activities for their cats.

If you aren’t willing to create an enriching indoor environment for your cat’s safety and the health of the local ecosystem then you shouldn’t plan on getting one.

My cats are both indoor and outdoor and I don’t care what other people say.  My cats kill rats, mice, lizards, frogs etc. They seem happy and get rid of pests. Plus they are healthy no known diseases on them. They got their shots and have no flees or ticks. So I don’t see the problem.  My cats have always loved being outside and not going to stop them going outside just cause Karen’s don’t like seeing cats walk around the streets.

most cat owner who swear by letting them outside to roam are usually on their like 8th cat because they all get hit by cars :rip:

Of course not, they've been domesticated enough to be kept indoors. Besides, there are way too many strays out there. And, while I don't have a cat, I wouldn't want one to roam around outside and bring something back into my house if I had one. It's the same thing with people who just let their dogs randomly roam around outside; they're bringing back contaminants into the house.

In many cases and situations, it's best they're kept indoors, unless you're bringing a feral cat into your home.

No, unless you want diseases and weird staff in your house, also I don’t think they mind it as long as you remain a good slave lmao dogs>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This right here. I've had 2 cats. One of them when I used to live with my parents in a very safe gated community, I'd let her go outside as she pleased and she would always come back and/or spend most of her time by my side as I was always home.  I moved to the big city and tried to move her with me, she was here for a week and was def depressed. So now she lives back with my parents and I adopted another cat, and he is more than happy to live inside my apartment with me. I let him wonder on my apartment's hallway but that's it.

It really depends on the cat, but I'm pretty sure most of them are more than happy to be inside. It is not cruel, you're actually protecting your pet. Just make the place a nice environment for them with toys and stuff they enjoy.
