I don't think that was a "generation's problem"...It was the radio saying "I'm not playing Madonna because she's old and that's not what people want to hear".

Yeah but also we are in charge now. Back then radio had more power. Record labels would basically only spend in new, potential acts and we couldn’t do anything about it. 
Now is the same, heck shakira hardly get any playlist but the people have the power in the end.
