Post your unpopular pop opinion - will it survive ATRL's new like/dislike feature?

Born To Die deserved its mixed response and a lot of the lyrics are Melanie Martinez level of cringe.

Lana only became a consistent songwriter with Honeymoon.

Blue Banisters is better than BTD.

The first post that make go... damn, I agree with all of these. Like a lot.

Thread here. I love her music so I’m choosing to believe that she is just a dumb **** that doesn’t realise that anti-Jewish hate ≠ Zionist propaganda.

She is a Jewish woman so I of course support her talking about anti-semitism but some of the people she follows are quite Palestinian-genocide adjacent.

Hmmmm. I hope Jessie at least acknowledging the human rights travesty that is happening in Gaza shows she is just being naively misguided trying to find the pride in her own identity as a Jewish woman and is trying to balance that with not falling too deeply down a Zionist right-wing rabbit hole. I still think her heart is largely in the right place but thank you for linking.

oh thats not- not her reposting zionist movement pages and following extreme zionists... pointing out anti-semitism can be done without siding with zionists. I hope it is just a follow and she doesnt actually identify as a zionist

Yeah, I agree. And I’m not Jewish - I’m sure the anti-Israeli settlement sentiment that is growing can so easily blend in with anti-Semitism for Jewish people.

But still, some of these accounts are out-and-out calling for the destruction of Palestine. It’s very disappointing to see her following and amplifying them.

Oh 100%. I just hope it’s a learning curve for her and not a case where she doubles down further into Zionist thinking as time goes on. We’ll see I guess.

Just pointed out how your username + profile pic basically sums up every Lana cliché I named :rip:

And you trashing another album for not being a boring album about a sad & mysterious white woman pretending to be Latina with daddy issues and ASMR vocals won’t change my points.

All the teenage white girls & gays who think mental illness is a personality trait will probably prefer Lana though, you’re definitely right!

Your fav is a Ben Shapiro supporter :rip:

The clown theme must have been picked to represent her fan base

ATRL has a hate boner for Taylor because she's been too successful for too long.

Rihanna is successful because she's stunning and cool with a distinctive tone but brings nothing to the table musically, much like dua lipa.

Beyonce is a great performer but everything about her is PR much like Taylor.

Lady Gaga has a very gaudy and cheap sense of art direction. Just compare ren tour and chromatica tour and you'll see how vastly superior Beyonces artistic vision is executed compared to hers.

Kesha is one of the most incisive, open hearted music artists working and the fact that she has managed to put out what she has after all the **** that went down (and continues to) — people sleep on her far too much and I’m glad the new album is getting flowers.

Loving the Kesha praise :clap3:

Rihanna is actually a decent vocalist and is talented. Obviously she doesn't have an amazing vocal range and no one says she does but her vocals get too much hate. She also has one of the most versatile tones in pop music and can do any genre.

Notice how it’s stans of other white pop female arists from the 2010s that come for Taylor… it’s jealousy. I don’t even like any Taylor besides 1989, F+E  but even I can tell who it is… the one thing that unites Katy and Gaga stans:redface:

Lana Del Rey is the most influential artists of the last decade… which is why we’re in one of the worst eras in music ever.

Swifties have dragged Beyoncé and Rihanna a ton though. It’s not just “white pop female” stans who the Swifties argue with.

This is a ridiculous take. I absolutely adore Lana and her music. She was literally my most streamed artist last decade but I’m just tired of the direction she is going in. It’s not interesting (to me) and frankly I’m bored. It has nothing to do with “hating talent.”  :ace:

Lana has lost her edge. Her music and image is officially BORING. Her past 3 albums could have just been 1 album then she should have moved on from that sound.  For some reason her stans have deluded themselves into thinking its good. :doc:

She's not the same as before, but it's by her own choice, she has been all about in the last albums about making it real, being herself and leaving behind the persona she portrayed at the start of her career.

Most of the pop albums that got an 80+ on Metacritic in the last 5 years or so don't actually deserve it.

I agree. In fact I’ll go so far as to say that these albums are the most authentic she has ever been. It’s purely her and you know what? It’s boring (to me). Her music always had a bit of an escapist element which is what always made her exciting. Now her music is much more rooted in reality and it’s just a bit too sullen for me. With that being said she will still always be one of my favorite artists of all time. :clap3:
