suburbannature Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 Lorde only lasted two eras because she was the label’s attempt at a mainstream, watered-down, more palatable version of Lana. Lana ended up influential and timeless while Lorde is releasing Solar Power and completely forgotten. 8 2 14
Popular Post State of Grace. Posted May 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 18, 2023 Jessie Ware is a Zionist and her "faggy, warm, lush" music isn't really enough for me to turn blind eye on it. Also miss thing simply lacks a queer soul to me. Her entire aura gives me straight white girl being into voguing and gay culture after a night out in the club with her GBFs and having a Drag Race watch party. 22 2 2 10
Popular Post wish Posted May 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 18, 2023 Taylor Swift is very fake, her music is average & a lot of her success has been built off the back of PR and media narratives Nothing is groundbreaking about having public relationships & writing love songs for her fans to obsessively draw connections to her "personal" life. Notice how she ONLY dates other celebrities (even controversial names like Matty Healy) in a constant attempt to hook the GP into her personal life, which ties heavily into her music. The worst part is that Taylor then turns around and acts like everything about her career is sincere, and pretends to be "above" the drama while simultaneously feeding into the PR machine on a constant basis 51 4 13

As a (former) fan of both (that especially dislikes their current output and thinks in Lana's case the music is taking a nosedive, lifted by retrospective acclaim), I will just say that though their bases overlap, when it comes to music...they are very different, sonically and especially lyrically. I never understood the claims that Lorde wants to mimic Lana. 4

EnigmaticAndroid Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 (edited) I think Taylor is a good writer and listen to her quite a bit, but will never understand why she's heralded as an all-time greatest songwriter. For all the storytelling talk, her lyrics still feel surface-level often and her melodicism can be inconsistent (ie. MIDnights). Folklore and Evermore were so great because it was her storytelling with elevated emotional complexity and rich melodies. Edited May 18, 2023 by EnigmaticAndroid 10 1 7
