1. Born To Die

2. Pure Heroine

Especially for people who were 30ish and younger during the time of their releases. They're credited to this day for introducing an entire generation to new types of music.

What is the impact of 21? (Not saying there isn't any, genuinely wanna know where you guys are coming from.)

How is Teenage Dream impactful? Nobody is making bland pop music like that anymore.

While you wouldn’t necessarily know it, Katy Perry inspired “Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale single “Hold It Against Me.” Perry and “Teenage Dream” songwriter Bonnie McKee had been working together in a writing session, and McKee had left the room to work on Spears’ music. McKee recalls the creation of “Hold It Against Me” as a “happy accident” inspired by Perry. “[Perry] came into the room in some tight, sexy little dress and I jokingly said, ‘Damn, Katy if I told you, you had a nice body would you hold it against me?’ I was like, ‘Bingo!’ and I wrote that song,” McKee told The Hollywood Reporter in 2013.

It’s a stretch to say Femme Fatale was inspired by Katy Perry based on 1 song. 1 song that under performed and is generally forgotten. If that’s all we got for the teenage dreams impact I’m gonna stand by my original comment.

I would argue Dr. Luke took Kesha’s sound for Teenage Dream.

Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, Ariana Grande etc. were all influenced by Teenage Dream at some points in their careers.

Why is Teenage Dream being credited for generic pop music all of a sudden?

Pure heroine? That album wasn’t big out of certain markets and its Not really talked about.  Lol at the 21 shade. Rihanna, Bruno, Pink (my second fave) all released ballads after the 21 era in 2012.

It’s definitely Born To Die. The aesthetic, the music, the sad ***** girl persona. What a time to be alive.

There's a few different ways to quantify impact

Born to Die/Channel Orange for the trends that followed in the years after

21 for the widespread appeal it had across demographics and huge sales in a time when most thought it was impossible

Emotion for poptimism
