Assassin Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 Quote Luminate’s “Top Entertainment Trends for 2023” report found that of the 3,900 US-based respondents surveyed, “50% of consumers who have bought vinyl in the past 12 months own a record player, compared to 15% among music listeners overall.” So — feel free to double-check our math here — that would indicate that 50% of vinyl buyers over the past year have no way to play those records at home.
Kill Me Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 My vinyl collection is too valuable to get scratched up by regular playings when I can just listen to that same **** on spotify. Some are in it for the music... but most of us are here to collect them.
Badgalbriel Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I buy it to collect it. I can listen to it on Spotify.
Digitalism Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 We always knew Some fans in here insist that people listen to cds and vinyls When the reality shows that people listen on spotify and have the albums on a shelf Selling albums in 2023 is like selling tshirts. Just merch stans buy
Janet Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 This used to be me but then I saw the light and bought a player two years ago. So much more enjoyable to collect now
midnightdawn Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 (edited) I buy them as a status symbol Edited April 29, 2023 by midnightdawn
Green Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 A mess but not surprised People don't listen these things these days
shookspeare Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I'm in this category, I just think listening to music with my headphones is superior tbh. But I buy vinyls to support the artist and because I enjoy having a tangible product, it's not that weird
Illuminati Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 (edited) It would have been surprising maybe 5-10 years ago when people would occasionally still buy music to listen to it but nowadays I feel like physicals are more like merch. A display item and a way to support your favorite artist. LPs have also kind of become a status symbol, as someone pointed out. I'd rather go through someone's vinyls than a coffee table book. Just cool to have in general. If you want to actually listen to their music you go to a streaming website. I don't even own a CD player to play my Lana CDs Edited April 29, 2023 by Illuminati
Assassin Posted April 29, 2023 Author Posted April 29, 2023 Half of US when they want to listen to their records.
Delirious Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 It's true. I have like 50 vinyls and never play them, ever. Because I can't and I'm not bothered to anyways
Leptine Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I know it sounds dumb but it's for the best keep them sealed for a value-collecting purpose.
Reginald Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 (edited) I have two. A Crosley that I never use, and a vintage stereo I found at Goodwill that also has an 8 track player, cassette, and AM/FM radio tuner. It's huge, and I love it. I produce music as a hobby, and it's fun to play through my vinyl collection for samples. Also, it's just nice to have physical, tangible copies of my favorite artists' records. truthteller Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 (edited) i always thought most people bought it as some sort of home deco and colection purpose Edited April 29, 2023 by truthteller
samsclubPRESENTSavam Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I mean, it doesn't help that the stores push shitty players like crosley. what's a person to do when you're aware that crosley and co. make trash machines and the record store is telling you that the perfect setup is $300+? For something that has been around since 1877?
Uncatena Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I don't see an issue here. people buy records to collect them and because they are beautiful pieces to own a physical record of. most doll or toy collectors don't take them out of the box either.
greento Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I have a record player but I very rarely actually use it. I collect records just to collect really, and I didn’t have a record player for a while while collecting records, so this isn’t that surprising. idk why people think it’s such a strange concept to collect records without a way to play them
shyboi Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I don't even know how they would work. You place them in the player and then what? How do you skip? Moving the little thingy around? They look pretty but i would never go trough all that hassle
Darius Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 Yes, I have multiple vinyls and do not intent to purchase a player lol
Saintlor Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I don’t get why in 2023 they haven’t updated the technology of a vinyl so that they don’t need to be turned upside down etc
