Gladiator Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Honestly kind of bummed because although I liked the album, it's already off of my radar for albums I go to listen to, which is not a good sign for the longevity an album has on me.
justin. Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Bumping from page 4 () to say this has grown on me tremendously. I liked it when it first came out, but with each listen, I enjoy it even more. I'm sad that it's flopping.
SixWholeYears Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 This is such a grower.. So many good songs and layers within production 1
SitarHero Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 The way I have no desire to listen to this even a 2nd time. And I have all her other albums on vinyl

SpaceOddity Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 It's so good. I hate that it's full of interludes but I can forgive her since she created Know Better.
Mikeymoonshine Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 After listening to it a few times, the songs are good but I just think as an album it's not particularly exciting. Maybe if it wasn't so short and she had put more effort into pushing it idk. It's making no noise despite getting decent reviews mostly and being generally liked outside of people who are disappointed that it isn't like her usual music. You have to go bigger if you're gonna change things up this much. Still she gave us a great summer album and the vinyl of it I now own is beautiful. I'm happy enough.
MusicIsMyMaster Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 Im kinda loving this island inspired album. * i don't know any of her music*
KatyPrismSpirit Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 wow since when does #17 sell 30k? normally 30k is always like #7 or #8. charts are def stronger
SweetTalker Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 Besides Lipstick Lover, I’ve been having Phenomenal and Know Better on repeat
Meloetta Carey Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 This was better than I thought it would be. I even like "Lipstick Lover" now maybe because it grew on me or it just sounds better with the whole album. Solid overall but definitely in the lower half of my Janelle Monae album ranking for now.
Bosque Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 (edited) Wow I absolutely love this. I guess if you've been waiting 5 years for a Dirty Computer follow up or imagining what the Grace Jones collab will sound like, I can see how you'd be disappointed. But taken on its own, it is so good at achieving what it sets out to do. This is a vibe that perfectly encapsulates queer joy and euphoria. Too bad it is not getting the attention of her other works. There are a lot of memorable melodies on this. I actually love the length too, it doesn't overstay its welcome. Feels perfect. She knew exactly what this album was meant to be, and didn't extend it beyond need. Also heavily disagree with people who say it is phoned in or uncreative. Def not. Sorry, what you mean is that it's not conceptual like her other work, that doesn't make it uncreative... Edited June 24, 2023 by Dephira
That Bad Eartha Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Definitely has grown on me a lot. Really works best listened to in full with how all the songs flow into each other. Main complaint is that A Dry Red is so short, such a stunning little song/closer. So long as there isn't another 5 year wait between projects and we eventually get some conclusion to the Cindi Mayweather saga, I think this will age well in her discography as the fun little detour it is. With how short it is, I just really hope she finds creative ways to bring in some old deep cut songs to this tour and the tour isn't only Age of Pleasure/Dirty Computer tracks with Tightrope/Electric Lady being the only old songs. Off the top of my head I could see Mushrooms & Roses, Wondaland, Dorothy Dandrige Eyes, and What An Experience all fitting into the vibes of this project really well.
MP2K Posted June 26, 2023 Posted June 26, 2023 This is all I've been listening to recently. Didn't know what to expect but it's really cohesive like her first two albums and summery.
ibreathepop Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 this is not the Janelle Monae i fell in love with. she used to release the most interesting songs, now she sounds generic and sometimes even cringe :(
