It's kinda like when a company with 99% white employees releases a brochure and gets all of the POC employees in the photoshoot in an attempt to seem more diverse. It's not reflective of the company's demographics so disingenuous like I said.

Taylor Swift at one point was the epitome of tokenism. The 2014 VMAs performance is a prime example. All of those men, but only one Black dancer. Her performances: one Black background singer. One Black girl in her “girl squad”.

 

She’s very careful and specific about her branding. She played the game. We get it. There’s no point in denying it. She’s including more diversity now, but she loved having a token Black person just enough to “satisfy” people. That’s how a lot of white media was for decades.
