Was Taylor's choice of lover in the Lover mv disingenuous?

Taylor was hailed as progressive for including a black man in the Lover music video as her romantic partner. The odd thing about this is that every single one of her public relationships has been with a white man. Isn't this the very definition of performative activism?

This is gross of you to say.

Owen is her friend and he’s actually one of the opening acts for the Eras Tour.

If he is white is bad because she doesn't hire POC people. If he is black is bad because she doesn't date black people.

Yes. She repeated it in "Willow" and "Lavender Haze." It's so performative.

Damned if she did, damned if she didnt. That’s where she is with you all. If she had continued to only have white love interests y’all would’ve crucified her. At least minorities are being given opportunities through her massive massive platform whether you see it as genuine or not.

What does being her friend has to do with the subject?

He is is black and playing her love interest for the show right?

No. Y’all don’t even know what you’re talking about. The Eras Tour main dancer is different than Owen, the Lover video love interest, being one of the openers for the Tour.

No I don’t think it’s performative activism — I think she genuinely understands that she should use her platform to allot opportunities to minorities don’t get as many privileges as white actors & models do.

She doesn’t have to date a black person to make you comfortable. Her love life is her own. I’m black and it’s hella distasteful of y’all to weaponize blackness (or race in general) for stan wars.

New hate narrative unlocked: her boyfriends don't have the skin color that I would like to.

Come back tomorrow for the next one.

Oh please, not this discussion again. Genuinely curious why these types of threads even allowed. Do y’all not see how weird it is to call into question if her co-stars are some kind of pawns in this giant chess game you think she’s running, just because they’re not white? That’s just extremely questionable. It’s insulting actually. She’s been consistently casting men from various backgrounds for a while now - you all need to get with the program and stop living in 2012. But then again, asking ATRL to stop weaponizing extremely serious issues like racism for their troll threads is like pulling teeth.

If she only had white cis people in her videos you would have dragged her for it too, so at least now minorities are being given a platform even if it's "disingenuous" according to you.

Do not demote my existence to who I am a fan of. I am black above all else.

Y’all use that as a deflection because you’re incapable of carrying the conversation out. I can call out Taylor was pretty cowardly for playing it so safe for the first decade of her career when it came to multicultural representation of marginalized people. I can also acknowledge that the progress she has made on it is not performative.

He was also one of the main dancers for the Reputation tour and was featured prominently in the Netflix movie. It was by Taylor's good word that he got a record deal in the first place. She gifted this guy a lot of great opportunities (and rightly so, he was fantastic on the rep tour. Taylor recognizes, and promotes, talent).

But clearly she instead should have ghosted him (or married him) to appease the OTHs.

What do you suggest. She make intentional decisions to not cast Black actors for roles? This is so dumb.

Casting her backup dancer and Future as her love interests is not "performative activism" :toofunny3: That's like saying that every interracial couple are only dating for woke points
