it's not 'so soon' after the movies though.

Have you watched the first 2 movies recently? they've aged like a stinking cat turd in Spanish heat.

They are actually in my top 3 HP movies :khalyan2:

Well they work as stand alone movies which can't be said for 5-8 movies

I really appreciate @DevilsRollTheDice list of changes from page to screen on the previous page. Especially agree with your complaints about Voldemort's death scene.

I'll add that I've always hated the way they cut Dumbledore's funeral for the basic wand light vigil. IIRC there was a lot of backlash to that at the time and they might even have said some nonsense about how we'd see the funeral in Dealthly Hallows. :rip:

A few other things that got removed or greatly truncated: Umbridge's takeover of Hogwarts, including Hagrid being chased from the school and McGonagall attacked and left in a coma. Basically everything with Rita Skeeter. A lot of the early chapters before he goes back to Hogwarts are greatly reduced; his final scenes resolving his relationships with Petunia and Dudley were deleted. The Marauder stuff really is downplayed; I don't think they even had the scene where Remus spoke to Harry at Shell Cottage?

One of my favorite scenes is when Harry reveals himself to McGonagall in the Ravenclaw Common Room just before the Battle of Hogwarts, and I'd have preferred to see it done that way even if Harry's "how dare you stand where he stood" confrontation with Snape is so powerful.

HBP has always kinda annoyed me the most. Playing up the teen romance, severely cutting the lessons with Dumbledore, adding the scene of Bellatrix destroying the Burrow just for it to be perfectly fine in the next film…

Show is never gonna be accepted, like can you imagine when fans see new Hogwarts, new sets, everything will be compared negativlly to the movies.

Doing show so soon after movies that are still relevant today is such a waste of time and money.

Some people think that there won't be new Hogwarts or sets or anything, and I do  understand the logic. It's not just about the established iconography from the films. There are theme park attractions and so, so much merch. If they do new designs for the show, they have to overhaul park attractions and redesign merch. But maybe they'll be willing to do that so they can sell new merch to stans who already bought it all. :rip:

The first is my favorite in the series. #2 isn't one of my favorites just because Hermione's out of commission for so long.

Everyone always acclaims the third one because of Cuaron and his soft reboot of the franchise, but I actually prefer the style and vibe of the first two films. The classic period piece filmmaking was the correct way to adapt the series; everything after Cuaron's reboot is too modernized and Hollywood.

Hard disagree. Chamber of Secrets is still one of the best movies in the entire franchise and one of the best adaptions ever from book to screen. Everything about that movie is immaculate and aged in the best way possible.

I feel like Cuaron took the series in the right direction, as much as I love the Columbus movies they were too aimed at children, and I can't picture the later books having that feel. That really killed the franchise imo was the fact they decided to keep David Yates for four whole movies. He was the most mediocre director in the franchise and of all the movies he directed he only did a good job in one of them, which was Deathly Hallows 1. He did fine with OOtP, but I absolutely HATE the Half Blood and Deahtly Hallows 2 movies.

Well, I do agree about Yates sucking. I feel like they kept him on because they wanted "consistency" across the franchise and he was such an irrelevant flop that he had nothing else to do. I didn't love Kloves as a screenwriter either, only like the first two really worked.

I have no appetite for this show but I do think Mylod should be a very good showrunner. Probably the only advantage this has over the films.

Well ofc movies were aimed more towards kids because main characters were like 10 years old kids. But despite that movies aged well and I love them even more in my 30s than I did in my 10s.

Colombus movies are the best, there's no question. Cuaron relied too much on CGI and afterwards it went downhill. It doesn't help most of the kid actors ended up being mediocre teenagers actors, and while they could have made the choice to rely more on the adults (like Tonke for instance), they actually reduce the role of anything outside the trio.

I do feel like the tv show is going to be great.

I appreciate what he tried to do but he also left out a few things and redesign the universe and I hated most of this choices (no uniforms, new hogwarts look).

Not spending enough time on Lupin and his connection to Harry (that's a script issue though).

and I was never sold on Oldman for Sirius. There. I said it.

They are both (Janet Mcteer and Paapa Essiedu) amazing actors. I'm sure they will do a great job.

The casting of Snape will be controversial though. Be prepared for the racist and bigoted attacks. I hope someone warmed him about it.

I don't mind Snape being black, but I do think the actor is a bit too goodlooking. Snape is supposed to be quite unattractive, socially akward and basically a loser (as a teenager and an adult). Paapa does not give that energy lol. So I'm curious how he will approach the role.

I'm here for them switching the race, but not when it changes the plot. And this will change the plot. It will make Sirius and James racist, white, poor-bloods bullying black Snape from a poor background. When it is actually Snape who is discriminating the muggleborns and is drawn to the Dark Arts. And Lily ditching her black friend for the racists. It will be a mess.

Why not a black Dumbledore? That would be great.

I'm actually very excited for this. Hopefully they choose a Harry who's taller than 5'5" this time

This and this. There's always been so much discourse around the James/Sirius/Snape dynamics and now with race being involved they will make James and Sirius look even worse. Also the fact Harry has a hate boner for Snape throught the whole series until the plotwist at the end. It will be awful.

At least Paapa looks young. One of the things that always pissed me off about the movies was how they aged James, Lily, Sirius, Lupin and Snape a loooooot. They were barely adults when the first war happened, James and Lily were like what? 21 or 22 when they died? And the movies made them look like old hags :rip:

Hate this for Paapa. He's super talented but the abuse he's gonna face for this casting is just not worth it.

they are going to have to go much meaner more book accurate with snape than they did with alan rickman snape to make sure its obvious that harry isnt suspecting him because hes black but james, sirius and lupin come across terribly in the books anyway so i dont see the problem there, im loving the meltdowns
