So people complain about the charts but increase the engagement falling right into the plan because we care so much about "integrity" as if most chart watchers have not purchased multiple copies and kept streaming a song ad nauseam.

I think it's ok to hate the game but this seems to be forgotten when your fave releases 50-11 remixes, acapella or similar version with a different color cover:psyduck:

Anyways, this isn't the first forgettable #1.

Legendary. More of a debut presence on the tour probably would've got it to chart :toofunny3:

I’ll never forgive Billboard for discrediting Levitating’s sales when they pull stuff like this for other artists :deadbanana2:

Same here, Levitating missed out on #1 by just a few points because billboard just had to remove some of her sales :fish2:

Yet they let the b0ts fraudulently make over 200k copies count, it makes absolutely no sense and why nobody should take BB seriously anymore.

I still have PTSD from Levitating missing the #1 spot no thanks to billboard :mazen:

Songs are staying too long in the Top 10 because radio is overweighed and holds onto songs way past their expiration date. Plus, we never had a song spend more than 60 weeks on the chart after the 25/52 rule was reinstated and before UGC streams were removed. The only ones that went past 52 weeks were Uptown Funk (because of the Super Bowl), Shape of You, Perfect, and Sunflower (and that one fell off after Week 53). [Someone You Loved made it past 52 weeks, but its final weeks were after UGC was removed.]

Adding UGC streams back and lowering the weight of radio will move the charts faster.

The removal of UGC actually expedited the descent of songs. Old Town Road suffered immensely once it was removed.

the pandemic is the real reason why the charts became “stagnant” and all components still haven’t recovered

adding UGC will only make songs last even longer on the charts because it’s adding even more points

The second week is not looking good. Only radio is supporting the song

US Radio: #21

US Spotify: #182

US Apple Music: N/A

US itunes: #14

Will it recover?

Someone inevitably brings up this false equivalency every time BTS scams their way to #1 and it's tired.

1 digital sale is equal to 150 streams, which means these BTS fans buying 8 copies of a song in 1 week is the equivalent of streaming a song 1200 times in one week. I imagine basically nobody in this thread has ever come remotely close to doing that. And even if someone did that, streaming services actually have oversight (unlike artist-run web stores) and would reduce those streams for not looking like natural listening activity.

As for the digital sales themselves, BTS's fandom crowdfunds tens of thousands of dollars from mainly international fans and feeds them to US-based fans who set up multiple accounts to make the purchases. Again, if you can find anyone in this thread who has done something remotely close to that, be my guest but I have a feeling you can't.

Lastly, I know it's hard to believe because of the nature of ATRL, but many of us are genuinely interested in following charts outside of any stan war and want the chart to be accurate for accuracy sake. I have nothing against BTS as people because I basically know nothing about them. A lot of people on here have been complaining about the inclusion of website sales on the Hot 100 for a long time even before BTS fans became the poster children for it. It just so happens that BTS's fandom does this the most often and the most aggressively, so yeah, obviously they're going to be the ones we talk about the most often.

Like... "If you're so mad about this, just do it yourself for your own fave" is not the gotcha you think it is for a lot of people in this section of the forum. Nobody's suggesting BTS should be uniquely banned from charting on the Hot 100, we're suggesting ways to fix the Hot 100 which would affect ALL artists equally.

I really hope this doesn't ever go top 20 and that is the end of his reign. I am just so tired of hearing him all over the radio it has been a good 13 years.
