BILLIONAIRE✘BOY Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Good. No amount of word salad or regional fishing will change what could happen if things go left.

popularmoonlight Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Whatever they say TikTok is doing you can be 100% sure META and Twitter are doing too. All social medias work exactly the same way. If anything, TikTok might be responsible for more left-wing content as opposed to the other 2 I mentioned which literally has been electing fascist presidents around the world.
truthteller Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 no more payola'd hits for yall label puppets. organic smash only.
SmittenCake Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 They're just mad China remains innovative and engaging when it comes to tech (well, maybe this title belongs to Japan or Taiwan, but still) I'll be pissed if TT becomes banned.
Margaux Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 when you are at the top. people would try to bring you down. youtube is slowly dying and gen z have short attention span, no wonder tiktok is very popular.
SwiftLover Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 These has been companies FUMING fix your TRASH algorithms
Material Girl Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 the trump administration also tried to force the company to sell and lost in court, the same thing will likely happen because they don’t have any clear convincing proof that there’s a national security risk, just anti-china propaganda the US looks extra ridiculous considering they haven’t passed even the bare minimum in legislation to protect individual’s online privacy and literally every US tech company collects the same sort of data that tik tok collects if they were actually serious about the issue they would focus on privacy legislation, but it’s all just anti-china bs
vale9001 Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 (edited) Is this app even used in China or they have other popular platforms?. The us seems really the most important market for it so I gues they're gonna sell it to americans to save it?. Edited March 21, 2023 by vale9001

Tik tok is the main reason why gen z has short attention span. I love the app ngl, is the best social media there has ever been, if you train the algorithm with good content you can learn a lot about all topics. Sad to see it go, Youtube shorts is the only thing I see taking over. Reels and ig are so bad.

Sombre Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 This is so stupid. I get governments banning possibly sketchy apps on government devices, but not this. At best I can see the US gov forcing TikTok to display some disclaimer about data (sort of like cigs where the person still has a choice).
vale9001 Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Of course is just anti china move and not somenthing about privacy. According to the Us government China is giving money to Russia. So it's just politics. And why they let China to make business especially in this particular market where they can track consumes and the habits of a foreign country. Same reason why every western app doesn't work in china. Are you blaming the Us cause they're making same thing China makes?.

Cannon Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 TikTok Employees in China were literally spying on American journalists even after TikTok promised it wouldn’t be possible. The app absolutely should be banned. TikTok has proven itself untrustworthy. https://www.thewrap.com/tiktok-owner-china-bytedance-spied-spying-journalists/amp/
Harrier Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I would love to see TikTok die because I hate it. My students are constantly using it and are so influenced by it in a way that's really terrible. The body image impact particularly is really disastrous. But realistically I can't support congress doing this when their motivations are obviously impure and borderline racist
Rosenda Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 TikTok is the most useful app to ever exist. Like wtf are we gonna do if they ban it all the other apps are ******* trash
Bang Up Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Pretty much every app spies on its users, but what makes TikTok so dangerous is the fact that it's owned by a Chinese company and the Chinese gov't has control of it. Anyone who doesn't think it's bad that the Chinese gov't now has access to the data of over 150,000,000 Americans, many of whom are children, is delusional. I would say the exact same thing for an American company in China.
Bang Up Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Some of the comments in here. Accusations of racism. Please, be for ******* real. You try so hard to be anti-American that you're supporting something like this that does warrant actual criticism. And it goes both ways; China would have the right to do this to an American company in their country. Whether or not we want to admit it, China is a geopolitical foe of the US and is not going to just leave data on 150,000,000 Americans alone. They're going to use it. They already push right-wing videos a **** ton and can very easily convince millions of young Americans to do anything they want them to do via TikTok. It's dangerous. People need to stop being deluded and thinking the US gov't shouldn't be worried about this. They should.
Communion Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 (edited) 54 minutes ago, Espresso said: This is literally propaganda from the NSA. You might as well have linked USAID. "The app can store your first and last name, as well as see who your contacts are on TikTok" Of course it can. What do you think happens when you fill out the fields FIRST NAME and LAST NAME and click "Agree" when TikTok asks if it can sync your account WITH YOUR PHONE'S CONTACTS on the app? If you share your phonebook with an app so that everyone using that app can find you via your phone number, that means there has to be some database within the system that lists your phone number to your account and lists your phonebook and the contacts within it to then show your account to your friends and show your friends' account to you. That's.. literally how that function works. I don't, for example, link my personal number to my stan Twitter because I don't want people I know in real life to be able to find said twitter. Thus I don't give twitter access to either store my number nor sync with my address book. What do people think happens when they give apps explicit permissions to do these things? It's one thing to demand apps in general be more regulated and require active consent routinely to access elements of your phone you may say yes once to (it's becoming common for phone operating systems to revoke permissions from apps that are inactive on your phone for 30 consecutive days) but that's a Big Tech issue, not a [Trump voice] CHYNA issue. The article reads like parody. The random mentioning of TikTok having employees in Russia. The headline contradicting how 5 paragraphs in they acknowledge that India's ban didn't mean TikTok had to delete the users and that the data still exists because the users still exist (anyone in India could use a VPN to access TikTok). And that the users still exist for the hope India rolls back its ban. All of this is just nonsensical fearmongering that wouldn't be so insulting if the same people pushing it didn't demand the government stay out of 99% of markers and push for deregulation.
