Relampago. Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 I’m kind of worried that people will try to paint this as political rivals to the people in power (who people that believe this will pin on Biden) being locked up ala Russia or something. Such a dangerous conversation that I feel will inevitably be injected into this event, especially with all the talk about Soros already.

His followers are going to take these words now and use them to campaign for him as if he is some kind of martyr. Also 'third world country', is this the 80s? The terms first, second and third world countries is completely outdated and problematic, but honestly that is just scratching the surface of how wrong this tweet is.

I find the perspective interesting. I also do agree with Maté, to a certain extent, that Liberals have repeatedly been trying and failing to catch Trump on SOMETHING and I don’t see how this ends any differently. Especially this charge over what is pending in Georgia. But I’m of the “let’s just wait and see” persuasion. This neither excites me nor fills me with dread.

Oh I wasn’t accusing, but yeah I hear you. People gotta remember though: it was a panel of 23 people who voted to indict him. Like, yes our Justice system is (insanely) flawed, but that’s how it goes.

I’d also agree with this take more as well: Though with a caveat- I don’t think his general election chances become steeper at all. I think anyone who wasn’t going to vote for him because he was indicted would have voted for him regardless. Biden also being equally unpopular (not to mention perceived as borderline senile) and getting closer to his all time approval floor from last year with JPow still trying to trigger a recession… I mean… I don’t see how this is anything other than a wash

He didn’t gain any supporters, but his base will be ready to go come 2024. He’s got the GOP nomination locked up at this point. I think 2024 will be another trump referendum honestly. His hardcore supporters, and his hardcore haters will be fired up and ready to go, while independents and centrists (who dislike both) will once again decide everything (hot take, I know). I will say though (I know you live there so your opinion might differ from mine): I think a GA indictment ends his chances in that state
Helios Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 All the fear mongering in here, "TrUmP hAS it In The BAg." I'll never get over how slowly ATRL has devolved into a fox news echo chamber.

Velvet Night Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 Here’s hoping that this indictment is the first of many

I will say though (I know you live there so your opinion might differ from mine): I think a GA indictment ends his chances in that state It all depends on Gwinnett County (and Cobb as well to an extent) really, which I’ve never lived in. Most of the Dem votes come from Fulton and DeKalb, but that’s pretty much locked in every year. The thing is, if the nominee had been anyone other than the poster child for CTE himself (who literally didn’t even LIVE here), Warnock would have lost. Even to Marjorie Taylor Greene. Trump isn’t THAT unpopular here, and the people who back his policies got re-elected by massive margins statewide. Trump being the nominee would make Georgia closer than the blowout DeSantis, Youngkin, or Kemp would receive, but I think Biden is so deeply hated here that turnout will be low in the counties he’d need it to be higher, giving Trump the narrowest of wins (like FL 2000 narrow tbh)
MadonnasBoyfriend Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 What does indite mean? Like they charged him?

To be fair: Kemp was an insanely strong incumbent (why the GOP isn’t hitching their wagon to him, I have no idea. He’d crush Biden) and I think that carried the state downballot. The long term trends for Republicans in GA, based on demographics and how the suburbs are voting, are awful (worse than any other swing state in the country, but it’s still probably the reddest swing state in the country), and that’s still not likely to improve come 2024

BGKC Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 The ego on that man. “THE COUNTRY IS OVER BECAUSE I AM BEING PUNISHED FOR CRIMES I COMMITTED” the country doesn’t start and end with you my guy. Like I get it, with the amount of corruption and war crimes that go unchecked and unpunished, he must have felt his corrupted ass had a get out of jail free card as THEE 45th president. Allow him be the new standard though, lock him up along with all the others that deserve to be in jail on both sides. There’s so much decrepit scum to lock up and replace. By only indicting him in the grand scheme of corruption is only going to stir up more division and unfounded discourse at the end of the day. His cult are lunatics.
