TV producer drags Jenna Ortega for criticizing Wednesday

i don’t think y’all get the point. the problem isn’t her asking to rework parts of the script, the problem is her putting the writers and crew on blast while the show is still on air and she is about to start shooting on season 2 :jonny5:

it would be fine if she said this years down the line but she just created an uncomfortable work environment for everyone

Okay and? It still made her popular the way she is. Also Scream 6 is more popular than Wednesday season 1 is currently

Because Scream VI just had its opening weekend maybe? The success of which is largely down to the goodwill created by 5 and the strength of the advertising campaign highlighting the novelty of having one of the most iconic horror slasher franchises relocate to New York City. What exactly is your point when Wednesday remains what put Ortega on the map.

Ortega also isn’t the face of the Scream franchise in the way she is for Wednesday, and if you’re really trying to suggest the new Scream movies are bigger than one of the most consumed pieces of media of the streaming age than I truly don’t know what to say.

Wednesday is what turned her into a household name — it’s Wednesday that had scores of young people dressing up as Jenna Ortega for World Book Day, it’s Wednesday that turned her into a social media superstar with a viral dance craze that has been referenced everywhere, without which she would have remained as a niche scream queen for internet nerds no bigger than Jasmin Savoy Brown with hit ensemble show Yellowjackets or nepotism baby Mason Gooding, and certainly no where near the pull of the OG cast…like bffr.

He says she's being unprofessional by expressing her opinion, but he's doing the same thing so what does that make him?

$75M ($50M being in US) being the GP :deadbanana2: Netflix has close to 250M subscribers WW. Be real.

And the idea that people are buying tickets to see the latest instalment of one of the most consistently successful horror movie franchises just for Jenna Ortega or that horror movie franchises even have the same global reach as a hit Netflix show — let alone one of the biggest on the platform ever. Beetlejuice 2 is never going to happen so I don’t think we have this to worry about thankfully (and I say that having enjoyed ‘Wednesday’)

You have no idea if its going to happen or not. :skull: If she does get hired for it she can thank her mediocre performance on Wednesday for that.

I mean even if all those people did buy it for her (which they didn’t) it would expose her to approximately 6M people. If just 5% of Netflix users watched Wednesday (and that is on the very low end) it would expose her to 12M.

I mean she was given the role as the executive producer of season 2? Thanks to herself being involved and opinionated. I’m glad she is because then the material can become even better.

You all want this to become a Riverdale or Sabrina?? No thanks

both sides are wrong

she was right to call them out on some of the script lines she described.

she also should've stayed quiet and kept in bts. she basically said: i told the writers how to do their jobs.

what good does it do for her to tell those  stories

she seems like someone that fame and entitlement will go to her head but.. we'll see

I agree with him, it's not really about being outspoken or expressing an opinion that of course she is allowed to.

As actor you read a script, or at least a professional actor does that before sign a contract and accepting a role, this has always been a Netflix show aimed to families and kids with unrealistic and fantasy elements, like the original show, what was she expecting? To star in a Martin Scorsese drama project?

She knew what she was doing and what the show was about, if the role and the show were too superficial-silly she could have refused from the beginning and choosing something more serious.

He’s right. Its very rude and dismissive when actors make a dog’s dinner of a writer’s work. They’re completely different crafts. Respect Writers.

Being a young famous woman must be the worst. If she gave artificial canned answers in interviews she’d be ‘fake’, if she speaks openly and truthfully about how she feels she’s a ‘difficult *****’.

the box office for Scream 6 says other wise. the GP loves Scream 6

scream 6 came after wednesday and is only as successful because jenna is so famous now. it's still not anywhere near as big as wednesday. be serious you can not seriously argue that Jenna didn't explode in fame after the show. she had 9mil instagram followers before it's release and now she has 40mil:rip:

OT: she can say whatever she pleases. jenna is the show and they ain't ever firing her. she wasn't even being rude

to be fair it's pacing to be the highest grossing film of the franchises so actually yes jenna yes box office smasha:bam:

It's not what she said, it's when she said it.

Why talk all this **** when you're about to film the next season?

Didn't she get the script before accepting? Surely she knew about the general direction of the show. It's a teen show, catered to teens.

She signed on to Beetlejuice and it's similar to Wednesday. Hopefully she won't trash that too.

shes weird to comment that when she probably changed three lines ans thinks she saved the show

She actually went into detail about what she didn’t like and what she requested to change, which you’d have known if you bothered to look into the situation.

OT: She’s now going to be an EP so I don’t see how it’s wrong for her to be honest about what she felt needed to change now that she’s stepping into that new position, even more so since she is literally the face of the show. People acting like this is the thing that made her and not the other way around; it happened at the perfect time, but she already had several hits under her belt

Queen tbh

If the show was bad and you as an actor had to make several changes to the script just to make it watchable then you’re on your right to say it! Mostly since shes an executive producer, her comments must’ve worked.

And the uncomfortable environment for season 2 comments are so dumb… if writers are that pressed for her comments then do a better job!

If a man had said all this he would just be seen as “bossy” but we all know that old story

Her statement wasn’t professional and she should’ve worded it differently.

I don’t want Hollywood to blacklist her so early in her career.

Well yes obviously she contributed to the box office success but she is not the only or even main reason, Scream is a well known horror franchise.

Many horror movies smash with unknown leads so you and @Josh acting like this means she’s some force that can succeed without Wednesday is laughable. Wednesday itself is based of a well known IP so she has yet to prove she can be a box office/ratings draw of an original film/TV show.

Her statement was unprofessional and dumb as she is currently starring in the show, she should’ve respected the people behind the show that made her this popular and waited until it’s over.

Oh please

A man, especially if he’s white, would’ve probably gotten even more backlash from SJWs on Twitter if he said this.

She didnt have to say it in public like that:deadbanana: but she is right, Wednesday gave me Sabrina and Riverdale vibes and I expected more horror. She is right when she said the show is MID but Im glad she fought to make some changes to it because without it it would probably be even worse:rip: im hoping S2 will be more "serious". Her character is great, she did a great job but its true that the show needed better writing and less teen drama at times

The total losers waiting for a "backlash" era for a 20 year old starlet are in for a bumpy ride. It's not 2005 anymore. Actresses can speak up about their roles and have a say in what they are and aren't comfortable with, without getting blacklisted by egomaniac men. And considering she just got an executive producer role for the next season, it was clear her concerns and revisions were right. Good luck booking that downfall you speak of OJOH :rip:

It certainly doesn't hurt, especially with it being the first Scream movie not to feature Neve Campbell and to really commit to the new cast; however the key reason for its growth is A) striking while the iron was hot after Scream 5 in a climate where the horror genre is excelling at the Box Office, and also being a follow-up in general; like how Halloween Kills grew from the franchise comeback Halloween (2018) and B) the easy sell of "Ghostface...rampaging in New York!" it offered something fresh that audiences wanted to check out.

If Ortega had not come back for the sequel, it would still be pulling these numbers, while Wednesday is squarely on her shoulders.

It sounds like mansplaining to me. :mazen: Very patronizing and condescending. He's a relic of the pre-social media era that deems any honest & opinionated woman as "difficult" who must be penalized for going against the status quo.

Sums it up! The op seems to share those same values.
