It's underperformance has happened to many second singles that have followed up a monster such as 'Flowers'. It's time to roll full steam ahead with 'Jaded' for the Summer and possibly have her promote and perform it everywhere and top it off with a VMA performance at the end of the Summer. I honestly believe it could be another 'Wrecking Ball' situation.

I like River, but maybe it wasn’t a good follow up to Flowers
reymiu Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 Any single following Flowers is going to be overshadowed . If Jaded could have been bigger , I agree that it should have been pushed as 3rd single after both Flowers and River died down.

I just wish they waited a bit more before pushing something out though. River deserves its time to shine and it was released way too early imo. It sounds the perfect early summer song and it’s still early spring. If anything, they should’ve had the album come out this Friday, 4/7, along with River instead of last month. I feel like both, the album and River would do much better this way. There isn’t a big release tomorrow which would’ve also helped Miley secure a higher peak. The zero promo isn’t helping either… Right now, what I think is that they should wait a little more so Flowers (and unfortunately, River) can die before starting to push Jaded. I think sometimes middle or end of May will be a good time to do this. But by then, they need to seriously do promo…that one is screaming to be a career-defining song. Jaded would’ve got overshadowed I feel like as well. So River was definitely a nice placeholder in my opinion.
