Cruel Summer Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 For reference, the top two opening weeks for country albums before this are Red (Taylor's Version) with 303 million and Morgan's last album with 240 million. Might add some perspective regarding how big a 450 million stream week is for a country record and how strong he is on Apple Music to get such numbers.

Because if it's for the album it translates into 9.9 billion streams, which would be insane given the album only has 3.7 billion on Spotify (which are global numbers), so I don't know where the other 6 billion streams in the US might come from. If we're talking about the 150 steams = 1 unit conversion, then it translates into 990 million streams, which seem low somehow, because I'm sure at least 70% of his Spotify numbers come from the US

This thread is about the US numbers only. And it's impossible to go global if you do traditional country music. You saw it with Taylor that she became more global only after changing sound to more pop. It's justified to be upset about Morgan's behavior but no one can say that this guy is a flop especially in the context of country music.

If the RIAA applied the double album rule for this one (each sale counts twice), then the streams might be around +5 billion, being such a colosal number anyways

Morgan was wrong for what he did, but so was all those artists you named + Justin, yet no one is holding it against them. ATRL/Gays just don't like Morgan and his music so they are hiding behind the "racist!!!1" excuse for their hate. Just hate him without masking it as social justice ATRL is inclined to forgive female pop artists because they make the music that they stan for, whereas this forum generally loathes male country music. You could even argue that SZA's transgression is worse than Morgan's. Drunkenly yelling a slur (that is used in countless hit songs) is not acceptable, but expressing an interest in eugenically engineering gay men out of existence is downright evil and speaks more to the person's worldview.
